Kind of a bummer that it only works in this mode. I don't know about you, but the voltage indicator is useless to me. I don't think in terms of volts.

its all the same premise.. sandpaper, usually 80 grit with an adhesive backing

I see that @Rywokast linked to my post. Interesting that my Southern California Home Depot sells it for $7 vs the $12 that @Lucas Alexander Oliver paid.

The Nikola looks nice, I'm wondering if the wheel feels more nimble than the MSX?  Those of you who have ridden it awhile, what are your opinions?

So far pretty much every comment on the Nikola has been that it is more balanced and nimble than the MSX, and accelerates and brakes with less effort. That's what a smaller diameter tire will do.

Hopefully the control board issue is going to be over soon.

Oh well someday someday!  I did manage to replace a couple of tricky engine mounts on my car this afternoon so that was fun.  And grimey!  I had to Scotch Brite pad myself clean in the shower since the grease was not coming off!    Happy riding to everyone!

I've been saying since I got the wheel that it's now the best riding wheel that you can currently buy. My opinion has not changed. Think of it as compact version of the MSX but with better balance - missing the high and somewhat awkward center of balance of the MSX. Also more low end power (torque).

@Nils, @Tobbe84 and I went for a ride the other day.
I have been doing a bit of riding on Tobbe's V10 since he weighs a bit more than me so we switch rides to even out the range a bit.
I was on Nils V10F this day, Tobbe was on my MSX and Nils was on his Nikola.
MSX was at 29 PSI for Tobbe's 90~ish kg. V10F was lowered to 23 PSI so I could ride it without dying.

We started off by riding through Älvsjö forest. There are some nice gravel and dirt trails there. Then we went to the BMX track in Älvsjö. Once there we tried the different wheels on the track and tested the up hill and down hill performance. They performed accordingly. In other words:

- The V10F performs like a large 16" wheel. It is beautifully balanced and nimble with a nice glide and no feeling of cogging. I could ride this wheel forever. It would be great if it was a bit faster and had better range but then it wouldn't ride like it does.
- The Nikola performs like a larger 16" wheel and dare I say a 17" wheel. We are back to physics here and rotational mass. Nikola is nicely balanced and smooth but required more encouragement to get up steep inclines. The Nikola also has a better all round tyre compared to the MSX which has a semi-slick.
- The MSX performs like a 19" wheel and needed even more encouragement to get up hills. When going up a hill slowly you just have to lean and grind as it won't go up on its own like the V10 does. You will feel the cogging on the MSX even more at this point.

Today I lowered the PSI back to 19 on the MSX. Monika and I went for a ride. Monika on the MSX and I was on the Onewheel. She could really feel the tram effect and the wide contact patch at 19 PSI makes the MSX want to wander about when riding on irregular pavement. Her lower back was exhausted afterwards.

This was just a long way of me saying that the wheels feel accordingly to their sizes, weights, tire widths, etc. 

When it comes to speed, even though the MSX can do 55kmh that does not mean you will be shaking off Nikola or 18L/XL riders. Reaching 50kmh and above requires a lot of intent. I could get up to speed easier on an 18XL. A friend of mine is convinced his MSX can't do more than 40kmh.  This is all technique related though. At no point did Tobbe pass Nils during our ride and Nils top speed did not exceed 45kmh with most speed spikes being around 40. It might have been different with me on the MSX though.

Nils on his Nikola and Tobbe on my MSX had 55% battery left after the 35km ride.Tobbe weighs 93kg and Nils 86kg. The V10F had 38% battery left and I hit the tilt back way too many times.

Marty did post a link but I don’t remember where .. but the amount of difference it made in the control I have over My wheel is significant. ..I’m not to tech savvy so I’m just posting a snapshot of what I ordered off amazon   And I just cut it down to size. And it back is very sticky .. it’s been on for over a week and I’ve ridden over 200 miles   Several times in the rain and it’s still stuck on perfectly and extremely grippy. I strongly suggest this upgrade to all nikola owners...:: Hope this helps  . 🚀😁😎

I finally had time to replace mine yesterday and went with Marty’s suggestion after seeing it in person, and the very reasonable cost compared to pro skate tape. Stuff is awesome and a must do. 

Passing on a great tip from Marty:  The grip tape will pull off in one piece. Place the sticky side on the backing of the new grip tape so you have a perfect pattern.  You just peel off the old tape and backing in one and place the new on the pedals.  It’s very sticky so line it up well before placing.  

Note, make sure you place the old tape on the correct side of the new grip or you’ll end up with a yellow racing stripe on your pedals!

I've been using 3M safety walk for close to 3 years now. When I get a new wheel, I give the original grips about two weeks before I switch to it. All of my wheels have the safety walk tape on foot platforms. It's much more grippy than the original tape. You can buy it on Amazon or your local Home Depot.

The older photo shows my 18AY with reflective stripe still intact. I later began excluding the yellow stripe in favor of more grip surface as shown in the photo I took last Friday when I switched out the tape on my 18XL, and 18L. 

I do find that I am changing it about 4 to 5 times per year.

I'm 95% set on selling my Nikola, my balls just aren't big enough for it... About 60km on it. Anyone in Vegas area interested or have suggestion for price? 
I have the new board, but it hasn't been installed, minor dings on it where I didn't pad it up.

Is it the EUC concept itself? Or are you just stressed by the entire repair and doubt aspect of your brand new and expensive yet problematic thing? Because the latter is completely normal! Coming to terms with a EUC is hard enough on its own. I had an issue about a month after I got my wheel and it was quite depressing to realize everything that meant. Can't imagine how it is if the issue were there right at the start, like it is with you, with the added stress of learning. Maybe I might have given up then? It is also common for riders to be very deflated and demotivated after a crash or another misfortune, so maybe you are in a similar position due to the complications. Psychologically one tends to have high highs and low lows with EUCs.

If you're more on the side of currently being overwhelmed (or simply uncertain), you could wait til the Vegas meetup (3 weeks). Maybe someone can help you exchange the board then? You could take a break til then, and maybe someone will help you get better riding if that is what currently makes you doubt? A group ride will also definitely be a high point!

If you really aren't happy with the thing in general, trust your gut and sell it and get something you can be happy with. No shame in it.

Or maybe it's something else?

Just don't feel good/safe on it. The risk is very high for what I intended to use it for here in Vegas, 
feel much more confidant on ebike or scooter, would trade for one of equal value.

Put an ad in the Sales section of the Forum. Also, there will be people at the Las Vegas ride that may be interested if the price is right. Unfortunately used EUCs probably lose more value than cars.

You also might want to sleep on it for awhile. Don't let your reptilian brain take over  More people have died on scooters and ebikes that EUCs. Most of us are not laying around in body casts.
