I'm just wondering, as the Veteran board looks so similar to the Gotway board, how many good engineers are left at Gotway, and whether there was a troubling amount of brain drain when Veteran split off. Popular Post Ben Kim Posted June 12, 2020 Popular Post Share Posted June 12, 2020 (edited) After seeing the board mounting point and internals, I can say Veteran put some thought into all this: They went with the Kingsong approach of isolating the board from the batteries which will lessen a potential fire hazard if the board fails For starters, it appears there are two sets of inputs and two sets of outputs to the board, which is counter to the Gotway approach of the input lines being isolated from the board, with multiple packs Y-split into one output to the board Why is there an input connection to the board? Will it act as a secondary BMS of some sort? I’ll ask Linnea at Veteran once these are ready for public consumption It appears this will lessen the amount of heat being pushed through that 14 gauge output line as each of the outputs will be pushing half the current, making the same 14 gauge wire they continue to use more than adequate. Next, is the cooling. There are MAJOR pros and one possible con to this design. First those ducts behind the headlight and taillight aren’t just for show! The fans are a blower style directly pointing at the MOSFET row running at 12V getting ram air from the ducts at speed. This is an absolutely huge improvement from the Gotway approach and leads me to believe they took the guys that had brains in the company. The one con would be that during a torrential downpour water could potentially enter the duct and cause issues, but i’m fairly sure the 3D printer owners will come to the rescue in that regard sooner rather than later (Or just use a piece of duct tape or foam if it rains while riding). It appears a separate housing can be removed simply to access the board only, making board replacements a 10 minute job. Visually, it looks like Veteran hit the board design and placement out of the park! Let’s see how these things hold up after the 1k and 5k mile mark. It may take a while for us to get there. Why did the Veteran decide to go back to 18650 cells when clearly the EUC industry is moving to 21700 (eg: V11, S18, MSP, Nikola etc)? We know that it would've been cheaper for them to sell the wheel with 21700 cells instead of 18650 for the same capacity, so why didn't they do it? What was it that the ex-gotway engineers disagreed with that made them quit and start their own company? Is "Veteran" a child of that PEV? Does it have the same electronics, if yes, people can check "M1" problems and compare More transparency from the company that makes "Veteran", like location, factory, and more?
