On a couple of 20-foot hills starting at a low-speed. That's why I said I could immediately tell that it has fantastic torque. Only question now in my mind is whether it will overheat. 3
Popular Post Michael Tucker
That MCM5 is the real sleeper. So ugly, uncomfortable on the ankles, plastic feel and creaks...but damn it goes up silly hills and glides through the night, so smooth, and very precise. Handles just like my Luffy, but a performance version. I love that exact thin tire, handles amazing. Marty you really have me excited for this Nikola now. I like the white better than the carbon on the Plus. Also your comments on good handling should be taken seriously by those interested in the Plus at 2100whr. I upgraded my KS18L to an XL and the extra battery weight really changed the ride characteristics in a bad way. Although I know you would favor range over handling. Kens
@Marty Backe What makes you choose Nikola as your next wheel and not 16X? Is there any deal breaker with the 16X or any really strong point for Nikola that made you said, OK Nikola will be my next wheel! I'm quite curious
Michael Tucker
Is the responsiveness (Stiffness) of the Nikola as stiff as the MSX?
Michael Tucker
How is the headlight? And is there a loud chime sound when the wheel is turned off as well? Sorry for all the questions. Your input (time/effort/opinions) is highly valued and appreciated!!!

Regarding the sounds, on @Marty Backe vide, I hear the typical GOTWAY turn on beep, then the synthesized chime. Does that synthesized chime occur EVEN when the Bluetooth is NOT connected??? The chime itself is not so bad, it's the digital tone that is a little annoying. The V10F has that synthesized chime on turn on and off, just not the short continuous loud tone. And NO sound on bluetooth connect at all.

Michael Tucker
When I get a Nikola I will unplug the BT speaker. I don't like the chime and I don't listen to music while riding. Maybe this chime while only be on this early shipment.

Well at least you have the option to test out the KS16X soon. About having the Nikola right now is a fair point as it can be late summer still before KS16X surfaces... Especially if you don't want from 1st batch. I thought you didn't ride as a speed junky 😜. As you said in you KS18XL vs MSX comparison review/summary I too ride a bit slower after I have my dislocated shoulder accident. It seems my sweet spot is somewhere around 30-35kmh in open non-trafic areas where I have ridden before. In crowded bike lanes I am at 20-25 kmh, if they are bad I am at 20ish. Yesterday I were cruising around city center Park at 15-20 kmh. So to me I really can't see speed of KS16X to be any problem to me. I use my wheel for exactly what you pointed out the KS18XL are better at than the MSX. And on that count I anticipate the KS16X trolley will be new best in class, but I don't think the new handle looks as esthetic as the KS18L/KS18XL. So back to the Nikola and your first impressions video. Here comes what I think I spotted at plus points. I love the power of the lights (what you also probably picked up yourself, as you have a preferred night wheel now😏). Too sad you have little choice of colours schemes though. I think the trolley looks great with the design of the wheel, and in time I expect the scorpion style will grow on people. The release mechanism I am more hmmmm about though. Just thinking winter time and wearing gloves. As for the lifting handle. Since it is fixed, it should be strong. From what I can gather it has a hidden feature, that comes into play when lifting the wheel. As I see it you would instinctly grab it from the outside and hold it close to your body to make the lift easier. This will cause the EUC to swing the wheel outwards a bit. So you will only have contact with the top half of the EUC avoiding dust, mud splash or water splash of the lower part of the EUC and wheel. Simple but yet smart design👌 Anyway have a great time with you Nicola. I am however putting my trust to the KS16X is a better wheel for me, even if it is from first batch 😏. What could possibly go wrong? New motor, new logic board and algorithm, new trolley, new case.... Nahe it will be perfect even before KS box it😁maybe...

Popular Post Marty Backe
Why I Think The Nikola Is The Best Wheel At This Moment I’ve ridden it about 100-miles since Monday. I’ve taken on my first mountain test (picture above), climbing 5100-feet to ~11,000-feet. I’ve ridden it on tough rocky trails which demonstrated to me that it has superb low speed power (torque). First, if you have a MSX, KS18XL, etc., I’m not saying to necessarily run out and buy one. My commentary is for those of you who want to move up and have been torn as to which wheel to get. You can now safely skip the MSX, KS18XL, etc. The tire. It’s huge like the MSX. It’s wonderful like the MSX for dealing with crappy trails, roads, etc. But it’s a little bit smaller so you get better handling like a 16-inch wheel. I think this is the perfect size, between 16 & 18 inches. The tire is the main reason I say skip the KS18XL. The shell. It looks big (wide) but it’s an optical illusion because of the handle. But the shell actually has a nice taper away from the legs, unlike the MSX (which is more boxy). So it’s actually very comfy to ride and took me zero adjustment period like the Tesla, MSX, etc. The pedals. They don’t have the large dihedral angle like the MSX. Just your typical semi-flat angle. And they are huge. I did ride it through some snow (11,000-ft) and the ‘plastic grip tape’ does suck - slippery when wet 🙁 However, because your feet are lower compared to the MSX and the top of the shell isn’t ‘digging’ into your upper leg, The Nikola rides and handles like a dream. I don’t know of course until I ride one, but the 16X shell looks boxy like the MSX, where it hits your leg. Time will tell. Based on my rugged trail riding with the Nikola, it exhibits superb low speed power to slowly climb up and over very large rocks, etc. Going downhill also feels very secure. I have lots of wheels that I will continue to use for variety, etc., But I think The Nikola is now my wheel of choice for mountains, trails, long group rides, just about everything. And for you speed freaks, just buy the 100-volt version. Yes, there are negatives, but where it really counts (riding), The Nikola rules IMHO On a side note, I have now retired my ACM as the best all purpose wheel. 16

But what you might consider negatives some could see as selling point. of course depending of what they are. I give you an example: I like the round look, but i dislike the glossy look a lot. (some maybe favour glossy finish ´, but I don't, never do) And yes that is my opinion. same goes for teh scorpion handle, without having tested it, I am not writing it off like many others have done.
Sidewalk Enforcer
High praise indeed. Cheers for the early feedback Marty. But if I think about it, that's how it should be - manufacturers ought to be able to take the research and learning from their prior models and make something better than has come before. It's a sign of a competent and confident manufacturer. Doesn't always work out that way unfortunately but in this case - well done Gotway!
Mike Sacristan
Thanks for the impressions and feedback Marty. The only part I was worried about was the slippery sides and the width and these don't seem to be issues. The side pads resolve any slipperiness I imagine. The 84v 1600wh is a very sufficient spec like you say. Between Wednesday and Thursday I did 100km on my MSX 84v 1600wh and the battery settled at 25%. I was riding 35km/h on my way home and getting some beeps when voltage dipped. Some of the riding was extremely slow though as my wife was really crawling on her Onewheel. But still... If it does 95% of the job 95% of the time then it's usually perfect.

Mike Sacristan
That's a fast average @stephen. And I would really have to burn on straights to get that. The fact what I weigh 63kg gives me a bit more range as well. Still... you haven't seen hell until you have been forced to ride at 15km/h with a turtle. My average for those 100km turned out to be around 17.5 km/h. I could probably get close to 100 with your average as well depending on wind etc. My top speed was 45km/h that I hit a few times.
