Original speaker is slightly larger at 63mm, but the replacement fits. 1

I don't want to mess it up I installed the new board in my Nikola today and shot some video. It won't be a great inspirational video I fear but slow TV of a man installing a board, but hopefully it will be helpful in some way to some others wanting to replace their boards. Haven't yet had the chance to burn it in, but seems to work fine with headlights and everything else. Will update with info and video when possible. 4

How is the music now? Does it sound better? Also that ground wire, are you saying that it hooked up to the speakers you replaced? It’s not needed for the new speakers? Do you have a video of you taking the wheel cover off? I’m not sure how to do that. You make this project look pretty simple and I’m willing to do it if you feel the benefits are there. Thanks Marty.

It's a cable that comes from the speaker module and feeds the original Nikola fan but is not used on the new Nikola control board. If you look at my Nikola Playlist, I believe I had some video of me opening the wheel in the second half of my Mountain Stress test video. I believe @Nils Nikola control board replacement video that he just released last week, has some content for opening the wheel. Yes, the sound has more bass with the new speakers. Hard to say objectively whether it's worth it to you. But I didn't mind doing the work for getting an incremental improvement in sound.

Popular Post Marty Backe
Control Board Fully Working - Finally I received a 2nd new control board from EWheels late last week because the fan didn't work on the original replacement board that I installed on July 2nd. After installing the board, the fan still didn't work! So of course ultimately I discover that the fan on my original replacement board was defective, As soon as I installed the fan from my fried control board, the fan started right up. Yea! So I finally have a fully functioning Nikola. I went for an inaugural 11-mile ride tonight to break it in. While riding on a sidewalk adjacent to a busy street, a car pulled over a few hundred feet ahead of me. I knew they wanted to watch me go by, which they did. Then they drove to catch up to me and match my speed. I couldn't ignore them so we started talking as I'm cruising on the sidewalk and the passenger is asking me questions. The Nikola was looking beautiful with the spinning lights in the dark. I answered a few of the typical questions and then they pulled away, but the guy said with enthusiasm that this was the coolest thing that he had ever seen, and to ride safe Such extremely positive encounters are fun 16

Unfortunately, I've now seen what such a case looks like after a few off-road tours, if you don't protect it. I can no longer count how often I have polished the side parts with a machine...very often...the inmotion logo is at least no longer visible! I had the original protective cover on it for 2 days, until I noticed that the dirt still comes in between and scratches everything. 1
Popular Post Marty Backe
Here's a video summary of my new control board (first installed 3-weeks ago) and my first formal range test completed a couple of days ago. Of particular note is that I'm getting the range that I would have expected for this 1600wh wheel. Originally I was reporting power consumption to be higher than average. Turns out that WheelLog was the problem. It's reporting values 10 to 15 percent too low. Towards the end of the video you will see that I'm at ~1-percent battery according to WheelLog but I have over 15-percent battery according to the Gotway hardware. Using my standard range route that I use for all of these tests, I achieved ~54-miles (180-pound riding weight). 50 of those miles were with no practical restrictions (within my self-imposed speed range of 18 to 22 mph). 8
meepmeepmayer
Great video Marty! Great summary, great explanation, great ride. Your area is somehow a wonderful place to explore and a bleak, sun-scorched concretescape at the same time. But you definitely have some nice routes there! The battery percentage is just linearly interpolated from the voltage compared to the (manufacturer-chosen) 100% and 0% voltages. 45 minutes ago, Marty Backe said: Of particular note is that I'm getting the range that I would have expected for this 1600wh wheel. Maybe Gotway reduced their 0% voltage just like KS did? What voltage does Wheellog report when you're at low battery? What percentage does the Gotway app show, same as Wheellog? If that's true, the Nikola might be less efficient (the higher currents you saw) but they compensated for that by allowing for more battery depletion. What range did you get on the 18XL again? - Looking forward to your new overheat hill test. And the 100V!

For me, all I care about is what the wheel allows me to do. According to WheelLog I shouldn't be able to ride the wheel yet I'm cruising at 18-mph no problem. The XL gave me a bit over 60-miles but I quit "early" because of what WheelLog was telling me. I haven't gotten around o repeating the 4+ hour test again. 1

All that's needed is one combination of voltage and battery percentage (as low as possible, but anything under 75% should be good enough) as given by Wheellog. So just make a screenshot once your battery has been used a bit (maybe after your next ride). Then we can figure out what the likely 0% voltage is and have an answer.
