  1. These chargers are cheap and dumb. They increase the voltage, limited by a max current, until they're at 84V. Then they stay at 84V (or a little more to account for losses on the way) to top off the battery. I don't believe there is any communication between wheel and charger, or even a possible communication channel. So, it seems the problem here is that both of these failures happen at the same time: The defective charger increasing the voltage above 84V and not stopping there. The wheel (board or BMS) not detecting the overvoltage and shutting down the charging automatically, even if the overvolted charger is plugged in. With the result that there is an overvoltage which can cause the battery to catch fire. Or maybe it is some different mechanism that caused the one fire, don't take my word for it. What voltage the charger considers "80%" and what voltage the wheel considers "80%" can differ. There were reports of setting the fast charger to 80%, which charged the wheel above 80%, so this might be normal. At least if the charger stops charging at some point.
  2. Sorry for that You guys don't need more emails. You already figured out how to change the title (edit the first post). Moving this back to the KS forum.
  3. That was a real question. I don't know if the BMS is supposed to switch off the charging if the input voltage is too high.
  4. Feel free to make the title less alarmistic. Didn't know what to call it
  5. Sounds like the situation isn't 100% clear right now. Usually the BMS should prevent overcharging, shouldn't it?
  6. Split into its own thread for visibility. @photorph thanks for the information, feel free to edit the title and post for accuracy once the situation becomes more clear.
  7. Weren't the 21700s supposed to be Panasonics 50E? Do you know which 21700s Gotway is using for their packs? Anyways, ALL I wanted to say: with Gotway there's always something newer and shinier on the horizon. So nobody will be disappointed
  8. Update 2: It was later confirmed that there are 21700 MSXes and the info the packs wouldn't fit was false. There's a 1800Wh 21700 100V MSX. Update: it was later confirmed there will be no 21700 MSXes because the new packs don't physically fit like they do in the Nikola. So this is the best MSX for the foreseeable future, until Gotway produces a successor of some kind. Original post: For everyone excited and wanting to buy now: These are still "only " MSXes with the old 18650 battery cells. A 100V MSX with the new 21700 cells may (or may not?) come soon, as it has been the case for the Nikola. Battery size would be 1800Wh then (1776Wh for real compared to 1838.2Wh for real in this mod - same battery size as the "1845Wh" wheels). Whether or not the new cells will bring any outward improvements is still unknown. Personally I'm speculating on less voltage drop, which allows you to ride the battery down more without the annoying beeps whenever you have a power spike. So a little more usable range, maybe? And better protection against overleaning? Pure speculation (or call it wishful thinking). So if you want the latest and greatest, be warned, this one might not be it for very long. Otherwise this is obviously a pretty nice wheel
  9. I'll fix this thread when I get to it... soon. edit: Gave up on it, too much work. Whatever
  10. According to pretty much everyone who tried both, the Nikola just rides better (especially the 100V). I do love the rock-solid, relentlessly-level-pedals power delivery of my old ACM, and if the Gotways have that and the Kingsongs don't and feel mellower, that alone would be enough reason to prefer the Nikola. Also a few people seem to have gone from Kingsong to Gotway lately and found that an improvement, e.g. @chrisjunlee (ok maybe you don't let that count) or @Flyboy10. Marty loves his Nikola. I haven't tried either wheel, just read the forum. But you can't judge wheels by their specs alone.
  11. What kind of shop? What they did needs quite a bit of specific knowledge. Thanks for the follow-up.
  12. 16X firmware 1.08 patch notes: Removed accidental curse that makes people aggressive and attack each other in 16X discussions - I'm starting to think every KS (18XL and 16X) potentially has this flicking problem after reading @Flyboy10's description. Doesn't seem like one defective wheel. At least a defective batch of something. Or simply there "by design" (planned or not), and it may not show up for most people? Something's going on, especially if KS can diagnose the issue and specify a (presumably hardware) fix from just looking at the video. It's clear they know something we don't.
  13. The Nikola seems to be faster than the MSX, going by the 3rd alarm. Someone do a lift test please.
  14. Done (it wasn't fun). Feel free to change the tiltle or suggest a better title and I will change it. I couldn't come up with a better name.
  15. Some other discussion here has been split into its own thread:
  16. I wouldn't go that far yet. Probably he's just even more busy than he always was. Jason has always been very helpful here. Anyways, not to stray too far off topic which is the 16X
  17. How exactly? Just wondering about ewheels. @Jason McNeil hasn't been here for 2 months but was quite active before.
  18. Wait till you get a "real" wheel It will make the V8 feel like a kids toy.
  19. Chooch is like 60kg (130lbs) or something (he gave his weight once and it was surprisingly less than I expected, not sure about the exact number). You're talking to riders with literally double the weight. @RoberAce doesn't seem too heavy, too. @erk1024 I'm not sure because I have no noteworthy experience with any of these wheels. But if the Monster is your only Gotway, you may not have felt the "Gotway Glide" yet (because the Monster after all is a bit lethargic in acceleration behavior), which according to Marty and others is what makes the Nikola overall better (the relentlessly solid riding behavior). So maybe the Nikola might be an unexpected surprise compared to the 16X. Or not, I wouldn't know. Just wanted to add my thoughts to the confusion
  20. @Afeez Kay If you would give us some photos of the new battery packs, that would be highly appreciated. How big they are, how they fit in the space designed for the slightly less narrow 18650 packs, just the packs in the wheel. Only one side panel opening needed I'm also wondering if your 21700 Nikola has the board on top or on the side.
  21. You may be the first guy that EUCs made retire early so he could ride more Hilarious photo. Congratulations! (The photo looks a little like you have fun with your Gotways and Z10 while the 16X is excluded and sulking in the corner Also took me two looks to see the huge thing was a Nikola, not a Monster, wow.)
  22. I did? My memory forsakes me on this one, but I'll happily take the credit for a nice series of videos if you say so
  23. I meant 20k on the Monster. And you're getting close! I just remember that because my ACM is almost a year older than your Monster, yet you've got over double the distance on your wheel (I'm somewhere close to 7k) Enjoy the bigger battery!
  24. Wow Bob, you must be nearing 20k km with how much you are riding.
