Now I have ordered new pedals and gel pads, to make the rest of it look as sumptuous... That blue color is like metallic velvet. You reminded me of the movie Blue Velvet. One of the good ones, but strange. Going on the Netflix list. That blue shell really looks good!

meepmeepmayer
@Scatcat On a scale from easy to &/%/§//§§&%%°!!!!!!, how hard (and fiddly and annoying) was it to change the shell on the GT16? Looks nice though.

Looks nice though. Pretty close to &/%/§//§§&%%°!!!!!! actually... With a brand new shell, it is plain hell to get the pedal arms into the correct position. The shell has not been "worn in" and the margins are very small. Worse, I changed pedal arms at the same time, and those were not worn in either... The thing that happens is that you don't get the pedal arms to align with the screw holes in the shell, unless you put the shell on one side at a time. If you do that though, getting the shell in the correct position to close it is #@%!!/"??!!# hard. It requires patience and persistence. Another thing that is a f*ckitall is changing pedal arms if the originals are mounted in the factory. You need a 6mm allen key from hell to unscrew them. It seems they have a tendency to use a bit too high moment when attaching the pedals, combined with a shit-lot of lock-tite to secure it from here to kingdom come. To add insult to injury, the light assembly wires can't be passed through the corresponding holes with the connectors still on. I had to unmount the pins from the connector to get them through the holes in the shell. Then reinsert the pins correctly in the connector housing. So what should be a matter of one to two hours of work, ended up with a full days work to get everything in place. I had to f*ing sand the shell with a dremel to get the pedal arms in place. If I have to point out a single thing that is really BAD about the GT16, it is serviceability. The shell looks very cool, but there is a lot of idiosyncrasies in the design. Simple servicing ain't that hard, but going all out is not for the faint hearted. If @陈小杰 is listening. These are the things I'd like to see corrected in the next design: There should be no free cabling in the design, like the ones to the lights and charging ports. There should be no small holes you have to thread the cables through. There should be no glued shut micro compartments for cables, secure them inside the main compartment with a few cable clips or something like it. The pedal arms should be a one piece design, or we place our full weight on four bolts screwed into aluminium. The round ungraded full width shaft should go into part of the pedal arm, to make sure the graded part is not bearing the full weight alone. Rather than relying on super tight fits between pedal arms and shell, use another pair of screws and a metal plate to back them. The six screws in the top of the shell, holding the sides together should be much stronger, preferably going through and having a nut on the other side. Preferably with metal lining the holes to avoid the risk for cracks The shell material should be at least 50% thicker, which would avoid warping and scraping when the weight is on one foot. Get me right, I still love the GT16. But I can't say with a straight face that it is easy to work with... And some changes would make it so much easier, not to mention alleviate problems with rain and splashes.
