The event occured on the E95 at the entrance to Skybyn when the tanks attempted to move towards Kyiv through Bovary, north east of the capital city. When large parts of the regiment piled up on the road accurate Ukrainian tank and artillery fire targeted the vehicles forcing them to retreat over the open fields in the vincinity.
