Finland ready to accept more Ukrainian refugees, PM assures

Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin says the country is prepared to embrace even more refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was reported by the national broadcaster, YLE, according to Ukrinform.

The head of government added that a relatively small number of refugees had so far arrived in Finland (according to the migration service, 7,916 Ukrainian citizens had applied for asylum). Most Ukrainians fleeing the war settled in neighboring countries.

Marin assured that the Finnish authorities would seek to provide "the most normal conditions" to accommodate those coming from Ukraine. The prime minister also noted that the Finns are aware of what is happening and that they want to help.

Australia to provide Ukraine with 70,000 tonnes of coal – Energy Ministry

Australia will provide Ukraine with at least 70,000 tonnes of thermal coal to strengthen energy security.

The Economy Ministry of Ukraine wrote this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The Australian government has held talks with the country's coal companies to accumulate certain volumes of coal for further transfer to Ukraine as part of humanitarian aid.

It is noted that the Australian company Whitehaven Coal will organize a corresponding dispatch.

Coal and its delivery costs will be covered by the Australian government.

“Australia is internationally recognized as a leading and reliable supplier of energy resources. We thank our Australian partners for helping Ukraine in this difficult time when our state is resisting an illegal and brutal military invasion by Russia," Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.

That's exactly what I was afraid of. If Russia fails to conquer Ukraine, they will destroy everything. It is very difficult to start building a country from scratch in this way. Poor Ukrainians.

Toronto Sun

Are Russia's military, financial elite plotting overthrow of the Vlad Hatter?

The elites are determined to "restore economic ties" with the West, according to Ukrainian intelligence sources.

The Ukrainian secret service claims top Russian military and financial figures are plotting to overthrow despotic President Vladimir Putin.

Putin is being blamed for obliterating the Russian economy and wiping out billions controlled by the oligarchic elite due to his invasion of Ukraine.

What had been anticipated as a quick victory by Putin has turned into a bloody quagmire that has cost thousands of Russians their lives.

The elites are determined to “restore economic ties” with the West, according to Ukrainian intelligence sources.

“Poisoning, sudden illness, accident — Russia’s elite is considering removing Putin,” declared a Sunday Facebook post from the Chief Directorate of Intelligence for the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

According to the post, “influential people” in Russia are anxious to “remove Putin from power as soon as possible and restore economic ties with the West  which were destroyed by the war in Ukraine.”

The Daily Mirror reports that the fifth column emerging around Putin wants Alexander Bortnikov, the director of the Federal Security Service and a member of Putin’s inner circle, as Mad Vlad’s successor.

Ukrainian intelligence sources told the Mirror that Bortnikov and Putin had a falling out after the tiny terror blamed him for “fatal miscalculations” in the military debacle.

“Bortnikov and his department were responsible for analyzing the mood of the population of Ukraine and the capacity of the Ukrainian army,” the directorate said.

Citing Russian friendlies as the source of the explosive intel, the Ukrainians say that their enemy’s elites are “considering various options for removing Putin from power.”

And that includes killing him.

Following the Russian invasion, the West imposed a slew of sanctions that are now economically throttling the invader’s economy — and ramping up pressure on Putin.

Among those sanctions stinging most are the blindingly wealthy oligarchs whose assets have been seized.

Would that it were so but very doubtful - Putin started his career by stealing billions while doing muni politics in St Petes then jailing or killing his opponents including elites (Khodorkovsky, Lebedev, etc) and has continued doing so. If you want a good chronicle of his bloodstained rise see below. regime change in Russia requires high level coord with military & GRU/FSB chiefs (Putin - ex KGB - no doubt has rats all over the place who can sniff out any such talk and those folks end up in the gulag (or worse))... He has no conscience or care for the Russian people ( see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_apartment_bombings ) and will do anything to hold onto power. Unless NATO steps in with direct military intervention (who knows where that goes) Ukraine will likely be a war zone for a long time :-(

I’m really pleased to hear already any rumors of Putin being thrown out! No idea when anything will really happen about it, but I feel it’s a huge move in the right direction.

What is happening in  Ukraine is terrible and Putin should pay for his many atrocities but it seems that the slow encroachment of NATO towards Russian borders (and especially the notion that Ukraine could become a NATO member) plays a role in this tragedy. This is a different perspective on how things got to where they are... Ignore the title which is sensational - a better title would be - how does nato policy contribute to russian aggression  - but the content is thoughtful... Not saying this is the gospel but worth thinking about.

Meepmeep, perhaps disregard the title and watch the video.

The video was uploaded six years ago.

Not prompted by current invasion.

Why is Ukraine the West's Fault? Featuring John Mearsheimer

Video had been previously posted by member Richardo.

Very good video.

my bad - had missed that. imagine the east doing anything close (putting forces in areas of western strategic significance that border usa) to how the west has handled nato/eu expansion ?  Would not hv been allowed in the least! Putin is a rotten SOB but this scenario was sorely misplayed by western leaders who failed to see how strategically important the Ukraine is to Russia.  And now Ukraine (like Georgia) is paying the ultimate price... - u hardly hear any western media talking about this... Of course Ukraine ( and all sovereign nations) should have the right to self determination. But the idea of joining eu/nato seems to be the match in the tinder box that western leaders should not have helped light :-(

Either countries are souvereign or they are not. You cannot go "but not this time..." then, and then blame anybody but the aggressor.

Pretending Russia isn't Russia and every country is the same also doesn't work. Russia has no legitimate "security interests" or whatever that NATO could or does threaten.

Yes Redsnapper.

Think currently, Zelensky is proposing relinquishing of joining NATO in return for security guarantee from Russia, withdrawal of all soldiers, Ukraine retaining military, Ukraine neutrality.

Will post if can find the proposal again.

I knew it!

That video had too incendiary of a title. (When interpreted to apply to the current situation instead of the maidan revolution.)

One's instinctive reaction is to get so angry you can't even watch it.
