  1. Looks like you need a 100V MSX Both wheels are great, but if you already now expect the 18XL to be too slow... Trust your instinct, whichever wheel it leads you to. And don't forget enough protective gear to go along with such a wheel (full face helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, motorcycle jacket, etc.)
  2. Well, since the MSX and Monster have had the same motor but the MSX is faster (at least the 80% alarm is) there must be something else anyways. It is how it is... Yes, be safe Isn't there a sticker on the board that says which wheel it is supposed to be? Not the shut-off speed. The 80% alarm speed at 100% battery. You can creep up to it slowly, kph by kph, and it won't go crazy if you are a bit faster. So you can check what the app says about that.
  3. Shouldn't the no-torque speed and 80% of it only depend only on the motor? The motor is the same (MSX/Nik 2000W motor) right? The 84V Monster 100% battery 80% alarm is at 55kph (34mph) so I assume, since you measured differently, the beeps haven't actually changed? Because if they have changed, how could that be explained? (You could do a lift test at full battery and read the speed from the app at which the beeps appear.)
  4. A Nikola update with the new motor and board would be very interesting then! How is the MSP braking? Also better?
  5. Exactly. In my opinion, these 1000Wh wheels are great if you are looking for a not too big/heavy commuter wheel, or want to limit your costs. Otherwise, go 1600Wh or more.
  6. Try another calibration, and make sure the wheel is upright left/right in addition to level pedals. Mayyyybe it's just a calibration issue (last glimmer of hope). If that doesn't work, ask ewheels how to proceed. Probably they'll send you a new board. This tiltback thing of yours shouldn't happen because there is no reason for a tiltback (high speed, low battery, overheating, overcharging).
  7. The V10 battery is twice as strong (and therefore safe) as the V8/V8F battery. I wouldn't recommend a V8/V8F for a heavier rider when so many better options are available. So on paper the differences may seem small, but in reality the V10 is much better - or at least stronger. (Also, I always have to say, why get a V10 when it could be a V10F? Nobody ever regrets having more range, and the weight of the two wheels is exactly the same. The V10 is great too, though, especially the price.) Nothing wrong with the V8F, though, but if you don't want one for the low weight/thin profile (which would be a perfectly valid reason!), there are better wheels around (like the V10/V10F).
  8. Get one of the "big boys" (if you can), for the range and overall robustness: Nikola, 16X, 18XL, MSX or MSP. The 84V MSX or Nikola prices are quite good compared to the others if you want to limit your spending. See here for example (they seem to have some rebate thing going on now til the 23rd?): https://eunicycles.eu/en/ MSX is <1700€ and Nik is <1800€ (but check other places for prices, too, for example 1rad). The Tesla isn't bad and would certainly work for you, but why go 70% when you can go 100%. You want to explore, you can never have enough range
  9. Moved and pinned. (If you mind, that can be reversed)
  10. I was just remembering the photos of the supposed MSP board in the MSP thread, which had 100V caps and everyone was curious about that. Now we know why, it's Gotway's new board in an 84V version
  11. Fantastic, thank you! I was wondering because the supposed MSP board showed these 100V capacitors. But if Gotway has a new design that's also used for their 84V wheels, that explains everything.
  12. Excellent choice! I'm not sure, but a thin V8F might be easier to pick up than the MCM5.
  13. Excellent! Could someone check (or make a photo) what capacitors they use on the 100V board? Just to be sure. Never trust a manufacturer. Etc.
  14. I assume you are aware of this? Numbers for the Nikolas and MSP are not known though. Or do you want to re-create the 80% alarm with some general formula?
  15. All that goes away with more practice and when you get used to the wheel more. And you can always take a short step-off break if something starts getting uncomfortable. The EUC bodyguard might also help with the calves, it's soft after all
  16. The Plus version was the 100V Nikola after the 84V released first. The MSP is 100V already. Independently of the MSP, there may be a new MSX revision ("V2" or whatever) coming that takes the improvements from the MSP (speakers, headlights, ...). Gotway will probably always do something new at a later date, but there's no obvious improvement like "Ok, but when does the inevitable 100V version come?" as was the case for the 84V Nik.
  17. 1800Wh: No battery on top allows modders to add an extra battery there*, and gives a lower center of gravity, 4p battery "only" but with 21700s. 1845Wh: 6p battery, top has a battery pack so the center of gravity is higher. I don't think one is better than the other. Packs are easier/cheaper/faster to build with the bigger cells, I believe that's why they are used. (* as in the 2700Wh 1rad mod adding a third 900Wh pack)
  18. People made a 3p packs with 18650s for their V8 by removing the plastic box holding the original battery to make more space. So I think 2p with 21700s might fit. Not sure.
  19. As for a full face helmet, doesn't really matter, as long as you have one. Cheap, expensive, whatever. Choose what you deem best for you. Looks, good fit, right for the temperatures you ride in, ... Wrist guards should have plastic slide plates for unimpeded sliding on the ground. E.g. the Demon Flexmeters. But again, even the cheap ones (like from a $20 rollerblading set) work if they have that. Also I only believe in outer, hard plastic knee pads. This is best explained by the first 20 seconds of this video (I think those are "the usual" Triple 8 ones). For convenience, you will definitely want "butterfly" style knee pads that you don't have to slide onto your leg (having to take off your shoes and fighting with your pants), but which can close with velcro and a few straps directly around your knee. About the rest, I have no experience there, but we have an own forum for this topic: https://forum.electricunicycle.org/forum/58-riding-safety-and-protective-gear/ Enjoy!
  20. 18XL nearly brand new (actually better than new: tested and confirmed good) for $1000? Am I reading this right? Steal of the century. You basically robbed this guy! Looking forward to hearing more of your experiences with the wheel. Originally from https://www.roll.nz/int/27-store (New Zealand), shipping is said to be only a few days, courtesy of @The Fat Unicyclist. Can also be had on ewheels: https://www.ewheels.com/product/18l-xl-bodyguard-protective-neoprene-covers-roll-nz/ @Flyboy10's videos on Youtube (Flyboy EUC) show plenty of it, for example. - (Again, FF helmet + wrist guards + knee pads are the minimum for such a wheel. Learn from our mistakes, not your future mistakes. Sorry for the proselytizing but it's true)
  21. 18XL! Wow. Looks like you could upgrade your budget! Congratulations. Enjoy your fantastic forever-wheel. And don't forget the appropriate protective gear (full face helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, etc.). Did you also get a EUC bodyguard for the 18XLt? They are great value for protecting the wheel really well, during the learning phase and after that, too. I'd buy one for every wheel for which there is one, no questions asked.
  22. The side pads can be seen in this video. The video description also has contact info. Thanks to @fbhb for the info.
