Popular Post LanghamP
I encountered this charity while riding my wheel. There's actually a number of birds around, all crippled, most hit by cars but also a few that flew into glass windows and such. Pay ten bucks to get your picture taken which goes into taking care of these birds. Interestingly, I didn't know just how close we came to losing the Bald Eagle through DDT poisoning, it was about as close to extinction going from half a million to something under 1000. However, wind farms now seem to be a huge killer of both bats and birds, and pesticides have been mostly successful in eradicating insects from farmland so probably all these eagles and birds will go back on the endangered list sooner or later. Oh well, we did have a nice 18°C today so I can't complain. Snow is forecast in a few days though with highs of -8°C. Popular Post meepmeepmayer
Some pics from a nearby lookout mountain I went to a few days ago. Unfortunately, a certain Adolf H. had to build a "scenic" Autobahn right across it, so it's a bit loud up there. But other than that, wonderful picturesque Bavarian rural scenery and mountain views. Pictures are out of chronological order, so don't be confused by the shadows changing their late-afternoon lengths. The ACM is in every picture Getting there... the peak is to the right of the scene. Guess its name (Hint: "Berg" = mountain). On the top. The white stuff is the city I'm coming from. About 25km of riding away. View! Hard to see, but a lot of quite distant rocky mountains were peaking over the ones in the front of them. Panoramas. Close by, on the way back down and home. Random chapel on the way down. Those are a dime a dozen here, as I've learnt from riding around. Edited October 29, 2017 by meepmeepmayer

meepmeepmayer
Not that many, to be honest. Around 2200 as the wheel says, which is maybe 2000 in reality (this also means I must feel the urge to start practicing backwards riding now, as per this magic number). But it went up quite quickly when I recently started some increased-frequency afternoon rides that usually are 50-60km each (it happens naturally, half of the times I only stop due to battery concerns). I'm closing in on 2000 myself, about 1800 or so. But it's a beast trying to find a flat, dry piece of tarmac to start practicing tricks... All is wet, full of leaves and shit... Almost enough to make me pause my wheeling for a bit, but I'll try going a bit more for the time being. If there starts to be frost in the mornings it is probably too dangerous, but so far there has been none.

Hunka Hunka Burning Love
Well Supersport went to the darkside when he got his MSuper. Ian Sampson switched to selling Gotways. Even @Rotator said his Ninebot goodbyes. When a company doesn't put out a new wheel for a long time people will end up shopping around. The dark side is strong with the Force. In fact I can't wait to get my Tesla this Friday! Too bad it will be minus 8°C and snowing! I might have to join @mezzanine and don some thermal undies!

Get full MC gear, pad the wheel like @EUC Extreme and go drift in the frost and snow. Who knows, you may master the art of sliding around on one wheel without falling 1

Don't joke; tonight I almost bought Canada Goose's warmest jacket ($1000) that was designed for use in Antarctica with the idea of using it on the EUC. If the sizing wasn't so messed up, I'd have bought it. I'm a large in their Chilliwack jacket and assumed I'd be a large in their expedition, but it turns out I'd actually need a SMALL. The jacket would be dual purpose in the sense that it would keep me warm, but it's so thick with down that I'm fairly sure you could eat it and be cushioned from a lot of impacts. I'm doing fairly well so far with a down parka over a lighter down jacket. I didn't realize you had a Tesla coming, congrats! Popular Post meepmeepmayer
Wait, is this true Hunka bought a Tesla (he left Ninebot because Ninebot wasn't putting out new models) and Bob bought a Monster (that HUGE thing!), or some kind of joke? Trump is still president, right (afraid I missed a timeline change/universe shift/glitch in the matrix or so)? You two were THE Ninebot holdouts here! And Gotway, nonetheless! 5 hours ago, Bob Eisenman said: Between you , me, Meep, and others I just turned 8,000 Km which is also interesting since it is about (4,971) 5,000 miles. 8000km! Fantastic! This is even more impressive if you stop looking at the distance in km/miles and start looking at it in terms of "how many charges?". It's easy/no-effort to go 50km in a piece with a big battery (just stand on the pedals and wait for 2 hours, wheel does the rest), but the same with 2 charge breaks is a much bigger achievement in terms of mental effort/overcoming lazyness, time needed, planning, route restrictions etc. How far does a (your) Ninebot go on one charge? How many charges is 8000km? This might beat the incredible 14000km ACM (probably 18000 by now) by @Dancer in terms of "charges". Popular Post Hunka Hunka Burning Love
I'm just hoping this new Gotway wheel doesn't try to kill me. It's probably not the smartest move to buy a version 1.0 wheel, but I blame it on those circular LED lights and Tishawn's sneak peek! That plus the fact it does 50+ kph was too tempting to resist! Not that I'll likely see anywhere close to that speed. I don't want the infamy of being the first to get killed on an electric unicycle. I might need to get one of those fancy chin helmets after all. With our cool weather I also doubt wire melting will be an issue. They are forecasting a low of - 23°C next week. I just hope I get a few chances to ride it before the major snow hits. It took forever to get a tracking number. Imagine waiting forever to get a new wheel and needing to wait until next year to ride it! I was actually hoping to ride it in September and October, but those hopes were dashed. In hindsight if I knew it would take this long I would have waited until next spring to buy one. Likely a version 2 would be out by then or something else down the pipeline. Oh well that's fate for you. I wish there was an indoor cycling track that let people ride these indoors here. We did just get a new BMX indoor pump track, but it's way too crazy to ride a EUC on. I'll certainly post some photos and comment about it once it arrives. mezzanine
@Hunka Hunka Burning Love You've done well to have held off upgrading as long as you have. I am going to have to make a very deliberate effort not to end up with 3 or 4 wheels over the next year. I can't really afford it, otherwise it would be fun to build up a small stable. I'm hoping I can hold off through the winter unless some used deal comes along. My current wheel is ideal for my purposes anyway. Even if I got another one, it would likely get less use. Regarding the cold weather, I think the wheel is actually going to have a positive effect in that it will get me outside. I've got out of the habit of being outside at all during winter and I think it contributes to the winter blues. As long as I can keep my face warm, I think I could enjoy riding in the cold for the outdoor activity.
Smoother
I thInk the dark side is calling to me too. I'm considering a used mSuper V3s+ (such a catchy name?). Or maybe a new Tesla. I find myself cruising faster and faster, and with headphones on, and I can't hear the "death imminent " beeps. I know, I know, ditch the headphones. But I loves me some music. There's also a certain "hip" factor in being like all the cool youths with their "headphones everywhere " philosophy. (I'm also considering a KS 14D 420Wh, for the handle and shiny shiny lights. Disappointed in the only minor batterery upgraded from my 340Whr 14C) Decisions, decisions!

Disappointed in the only minor batterery upgraded from my 340Whr 14C) Decisions, decisions! Look into getting Trekz Titanium headphones by Aftershokz. They are bone conductive so your ear holes remain open to hear beeps /cars etc. I had them for cycling and for music at work without blocking out my colleagues. It is like a personal speaker in your head. I can't use them with my Giro Switchblade full face helmet but if you wear a regular helmet they work. @TremFalso has them and likes them and found a nice helmet they work with. Not cheap. But cheaper than a new wheel. Even if you get a new wheel they are a lot safer than wearing headphones while riding.
