Great clip! 72 pounds, I thought it was 50 pounds.
Rehab1 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Sorry to digress a bit. I am not sure if this article was ever reported on the forum. If not here is an interesting story on PEV regulations and accident statistics in Singapore along with their new mandatory registration on all E-Bikes by January 31, 2018. http://www.straitstimes.com/politics/parliament-90-accidents-involving-electric-bikes-and-personal-mobility-devices-in-first

novazeus Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 hey, whatever. i got up this morning threw on my sneakers and dragged my ks18s that i didn’t blow up with two kingsong chargers and the charge doctor, gained 1% to 91% and f upped both chargers. jumped on the wheel and made it to my gate, seemed alright, a little more reactive, not use to sneakers on it, and picked my amazon package up they dropped off after dark last night, and made it back safely to string a hundred feet of cat6e cable. i wonder if it could double as clothesline, if i can get it high enough, out of Bob’s reach. $10, pretty cheap. so, good wheel day for me today. too cold here. that’s how i use my wheels. elderly mobility assist. now i gotta buy a charger. idk what i did wrong, if i did do something wrong. these chargers coulda been defective. weird all of sudden the ks-16s gets to full charge. when u measure output voltage, it’s not under load.

I wasn't, but my knee didn't impact anything. In fact, I didn't have any visible scratch. A knee pad wouldn't have done any good. The foot hit the ground pointed one way but my body was headed a different direction, and the knee tore apart in order to split the difference between the two. Football players wear knee pads all the time which protect their kneecaps, but they also get ACL/MCL knee injuries from the same kind of sudden-direction-change motions.
Rehab1 Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 @dmethvin I still cringe envisioning your accident! Have you been given a surgical date?

In the followup the doctor referred me to another specialist (the Georgetown team doctor) for the posterio-lateral horn injury. Supposedly it's sometimes better to fix that before it scars over.
Circuitmage Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 @dmethvin Ahh, I understand now. Thanks for detailing the injury. Get well.
Shemp Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 Somebody needs to get something like this and tell us all how it does in an EUC crash:https://www.alpinestars.com/tech-air
Pard Posted March 14, 2018 Posted March 14, 2018 That vest would work, but it needs to be in a special jacket or suit, costs 1000 dollars and every little tumble would cost $150 to reset the system. Not practical. A helite vest with a teather is a better option, but at our EUC speeds, it is really not needed, just pads to protect the corners of the body, helmet and gloves. Extreme EUC, a member here, does it right.

The funny thing is, now that the swelling has gone down there isn't a lot of pain, just a bit of soreness at times. It's just that the joint feels really "loose" and I'm hesitant to trust it, even with the knee brace. The feeling of your knee sliding apart is pretty gross, even if it doesn't hurt much. I think you've had a tougher time so I'll send all my luck over to you. I suspect I'll eventually get surgery but other than the long recovery period I'm pretty optimistic. The tough part will be explaining to my wife that I want to get back on the wheel.

That states volumes! Regarding your wife’s displeasure that is a tough call. Continue with the forum and discuss with your wife how all of the members are now gearing up further to protect themselves from injury. Even tell her some fool on the forum that recently had surgery on his shoulder is beginning to ride again. At first she may completely shut you out but atleast she’ll begin to perceive that you still have a passion to ride. Good luck and please keep us posted.

I can't say about "jeans" but there are leather and synthetic motorcycle pants that are form-fitting enough to not move around, but not so form-fitting as to look like you just came out of some kind of shady dance club. And they breathe well and may be weather-resistant. Better still, it used to be that http://www.udreplicas.com/ had a variety of novelty riding gear modeled after your favorite superhero, stormtroopers, etc... though seems their modern offerings are a bit more modest. Lately I've been considering hockey shin guards which go all the way from the ankle up to the knee. And in Detroit, nobody cares if you wear hockey gear out of context. Anyway, wishing for your speedy recovery!

Demargon Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I sorry for hear that injury happen to you. That's the same kind I (and many others) have. Happen when I juggling, far away from home in a travel with friends in Dublin. Is not painful but the sense of lost the control of the limb is awfull. I live with it cuple of years until I have to go to the surgery. After and before I do a normal life less some times I get little hurt because tiredness. I knew someones who don't go to surgery and live with it, but is mutch better if you can fix it. The best way to prevent knee injuries is training the muscles around it, if they are lazy all the weight comes to the ligaments, then a bad turn can easily broke them
dmethvin Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Yet another medical update. Went to my first rehab session today (really prehab since I'm likely to get surgery now) and the stretching/exercises really help. Also visited the second doctor. He said that his main concern was the tear in the meniscus since that generally doesn't heal well. It's not necessary to have an ACL and the MCL will heal back, but it does increase the chance the joint will dislocate and tear the meniscus more, leading to arthritis. He asked if I planned on riding or doing other stuff that might stress the knee and I answered "probably". With that in mind he suggested surgery in the next month or so to clean up the tear and fix the ACL. Sounds like the surgery recovery won't be any worse than what I've already been through. If I'm lucky I should be able to ride by the end of the summer. Gotta get some of those knee braces that Rehab1 showed off in his thread!
