That is probably what happened. As @Unventor said, he landed pretty flat on his backpack, and slid forward a feet or two. But I have to give it to him, there was exactly one big rock on the road, trust @Unventor to find it... I stod there absolutely sure he saw it, then I started a stillborn shout as I saw him hit it dead on. I was maybe 25 yards away and the wheel got almost halfway to me before stopping. I’m going to see if the clip we recorded came out good, then you can all see the rock for yourselves... ? Too bad I was not bought on film, I am pretty sure my interpretation of chicken flapping my arm only show up in slow-motion. So major question remains...does prove I am not a chicken or just a chicken that has not learned to fly yet? ?

mezzanine
Sorry to hear about your fall. I don't think I've yet heard of an accident where someone ended up flat on their back while falling at speed. I'm guessing you rolled as you hit the ground? It's always useful when folks post about their accidents because it helps to be able to visualize what happened in an effort to try to avoid that type of accident in the future (hopefully). Also helpful to hear about the elbow pads sliding.
meepmeepmayer
Ouch, that looks bad for an arm that had elbow pads on!! Shows again that abrasion is the #1 concern for us wheelers, not worst case hard impacts or so. So the protective gear must not slide off easily. Rocks are indeed evil. This ****er got me last year. Looking forward to see yours. Maybe we can start a crash-causing item collection thread where everyone can post their rocks 'n' potholes

However I managed to this the only one rock at glove size 8 fist is bound me. By fully geared up I kinda looked like this, only had a different t-shirt on. 3

Popular Post Scatcat
Sorry about the shitty quality in the second part, the GoPro don't have zoom. I'll have to find a better camera with zoom and a better angle where you see the braking from the side rather than from the front. It looks almost lazy in the video, but it is pretty amazing that you can go from 35+ kph to 0 in 15 meters or so without actual brakes. The ride mode is hard (which on the GT16 means stone hard), so it looks very undramatic. The angle you have to push in hard mode is much less than in softer modes. Also interesting was trying the V8. Talk about different ride feeling! It felt both more and less stable. The much more narrow stance and rather high pads made it feel almost stiff when turning, until I put my feet further out on the pedals. The GT16 pads are less "dominant" in their effect on the balance. I can see however, why the owners like it so much, it oozes quality. So far I have not had to test how well it protects since I have not fallen with it :-) It is not going to be suitable for cold months. When it is cool (less then 15C) I wear a bicycle jacket (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Tour-de-France-Bicycle-Cycling-Jersey-Men-Riding-Breathable-Jacket-Cycle-Clothing-Bike-Long-Sleeve-Winter/1537006631.html) on top.

Also helpful to hear about the elbow pads sliding. Now I didn't observe what happened and my perception might be a little off due to mid working hard to avoid what is going on and to minimize impact once I realized an high-speed accident cannot be avoided. During the puncture induced wobbles I am trying to keep balance which is very hard and trying to reduce speed to. I am not too concerned about direction as I think I am enough space to work on. Brain and body is at this point 120% capacity working to process this. So no room for eye observations then I hit the concret rock of a size of a fist. Brain goes into what was that? What is going on until I manage to snap out of it and start to think about what do i do now? At this point my body is horizontal and still moving on a forward vector with 20-25ish kmh. All I manage to decide is I do not want to hit ground on neck and head. I rather use the wrist guards to brace for impact and i try to bend up my back. I don't dare to speculate...despite the road rash the elbow pad did take initial impact. So did my backpack...and my wallet. Ok yes I were kinda in panic mode hanging horizontal in mid air. I doubt I would be able to brace for the impact thought proces if I had been unprotected. My lower back is hurting quiet a bit now a few days after. I can barely bend it or lean on in sitting poseur. So my trick is to roll on side and use side motion to get from laying down sitting upright, then I can manage to move to standing up. Edited July 8, 2018 by Unventor Added pic. I've had three real falls, and each time my muscles were sore as h-ll afterwards. No permanent damage, just overstressed. Your pads saved you from worse, but those elbow pads just don't cut it, you should get some that sit tight in place. My POCs are just slide on, but have a velcro tape on the end that stops the tendency to slide - something like that might do it. 1
Popular Post Unventor
Well I shall not be posting about my accident anymore. This is after All @Rehab1s thread. But at the time I made my first post my thought were that he should not be alone with all his unfortune riding EUCs. It can happen to anyone at anytime. Now your riding skills and style influence what helped and how frequent but accident do happen so being prepared is the you can do imho. I hope some of the posts and reactions have been informative and fun. At the end if the day all I can do is laugh about it, no real harme done to my body only my pride. My body will recover. My pride maybe not so much. So thred back to @Rehab1 07 and safe riding all.
