What kind of reaction do you get from the other half/wife/girlfriend/ball and chain ect

So my girlfriend “caught me on my phone” whilst watching a movie together. Her response ; “ i bet you’re talking to people about your wheel thing, aww that’s cute “ and continued to poke fun at me. What kind of reaction do you get from your significant other regarding your riding/interest in this forum?

I think it depends on a few different things. 1) how long you two have been together, 2) how long you have had the wheel, 3) if she knows how to ride one.

For me, I've had me wheel longer than we've been together. So she just ignores most things about the wheel. My best friend's GF on the other hand, reacted almost exactly as yours. "awh thats cute, you gonna start up a 'uniwheel' gang?"

My wife thinks it is cool although I don't think she has any desire to ride one due to the risk. She's pretty awesome. As we are both doing what we can to reduce our impact on the environment she loves that the wheel is a relatively zero emission option for me to get to work and when I calculated last night that the 815 miles I've ridden on it to and from work only cost $2.15 in electric vs the $100 I'd have burnt in petrol in our only car she was really happy. The wheel has saved us money and the need for a second vehicle. She wouldn't be adverse to me swapping it out for an eBike though. I'm not handsome by any means but I look better now than I would after a bad faceplant and she knows it.

As for the forum, well honestly I wouldn't be so rude as to be looking at it while we were watching a movie together but she does sometimes ask what I'm up to when I'm just sitting about on my phone. If my response is a sheepish "nothing" then she knows I'm chatting/reading on here and I know I've already been browsing too long.

I'll usually say, "Well, it's not the worst thing you've caught me doing."    ... while I pretend to be reading the forums and quickly switch away from the other tab I'm looking at.  If I had a girlfriend, that is.  Or do I?  HmmMMmm...

Mine wants to learn to ride my wheel, but doesn't want to put any time into it she just expects to get on it and be able to go, I really want her to learn then I can justify buying the 100v monster so I have a wheel for "her"....

It's a shame the Solowheel Brush didn't get enough backers. I think that would have really helped new learners.

Funny that you should mention the electricity cost. As I rode to work today (today is national bike-to-work-day), 26-miles in 2h5m, I calculated my approximate cost savings.

Electricity is expensive in California (what isn't?) at ~25-cents per kilowatt hour. I consumed about 640wh of my 1600wh MSuper capacity. That's about 16-cents. I'm going to double that because of the inefficiencies in the power brick (gets burning hot) that charges the wheel. So lets just say 30-cents.

My normal transportation is my Avalanche V8 which gets me about 17-mpg. Gas is currently $3.45 per gallon.  That's $5.28 vs $0.30   Sweet.   Now if it only didn't take 2-hours vs 40-minutes

I find I'm starting to get a little annoyed by the "how much does it cost?" question.  In the past I would just say something like $500 to see their reaction to the idea as a value proposition.  

Now, I'll ask them how much they think it is, and then give them a thumbs up to indicate it's more expensive without giving them a figure.  Or say "too expensive."

I read this thread wrong and answered a different question than it asks, but yeah, it didn't bother me the first hundred or so times I was asked how much, but I've unfortunately found that my patience isn't what it was when I started out.  

A lot of it is based on a quick read of the person.  If I get the sense that they're genuinely enthusiastic, I tend to be more patient and engaged.  If it's someone coming in with some weird ego thing, I'll be very dismissive.

No wonder your wife likes you riding, she gets the car to herself and has extra money to spend on shoes and handbags ?

oh, i have a problem. i just tried to take the v10f out for a ride and Bob was upset he wasn’t coming along. i had to put it up without riding. he knows what wheeling is all about now as doesn’t want to be left even if it’s only 3 minutes.

he’s not old enough to be going out at night.

for me, i love the v10f. it’s more of a mobility assist device for me, especially when ur driveway is 2200’ long. it’s pitch black out here so i go inside, turn it on, i picked it up and have a nice floodlight to light my way to my road, no need to carry a handheld floodlight. plus because the wind has been blowing, might be new limbs down on the road and the kingsong wheels aren’t bright enough. the wheel has just enough heft to be solid but doesn’t trip that 50 pound threshold i’m use to, carrying feedbags. the 18s is very clunky to tote. those extra pounds exceed my comfort threshold. 45.4 pounds compared to 57 pounds pushing 65 years old, it’s a big deal. it’s a big deal for the world. airlines, shipping services, etc the magic number is fifty pounds. being almost 12 pounds lighter and more compact shape is much better suited as a mobility assist device. 

i don’t want to even think about the 10z anymore and i’m gonna try to not think about it. maybe if they just went all in and put a fat knobby on it and give it some power for strictly off pavement use and made it water hose friendly so i could hose off the cow shit. kinda like my polaris. it sucks on pavement but good off.

the handle clutch and bright headlight are a big deal in the wilderness.

About 18 months ago, when I was researching what first EUC to get, my wife saw what I was looking at on my laptop. She thought it was supercool and decided to get one of her own. Hers came before mine, and she commutes to work on it, goes for milk runs on it, and rides it at every opportunity. She's a way better and more enthusiastic rider than me.

On the contrary, we try to live a simple, minimal, non-consumer life. She doesn't shop much. What it does mean though is that we loose less money each month as our outgoings still exceed my crap government salary at the moment. It also means my commute is less stressful. Driving here sucks. She can keep the car. I don't want it. 

As for my looks. I'm a realist and I know where I stand in the world. A little modesty hurt no one. Too many people think they are the shit and the world revolves around them. A bit more modesty in the world would make it a much better place.

I’m a realist too. I suppose your self deprecating humour fits. ( i zoomed into your photo ? ) well my humour is rude, cocky and offensive. I guess we are all different. 

seriously though, theres nothing wrong with a bit of modesty. Its a shame social media is going down the other route, our future generations are doomed.

You’re fortunate to be able to commute to work! some of us work too far away from home ?
