  1. This is much more likely than not a manufacturing defect (thermal pad plastic cover not fully removed). Marty will repeat the test with the new board and I suspect (= hope) it's just going to overheat (at most) then, just like all the other wheels.
  2. They already have a self-balancing ostrich-like robot on two wheels.
  3. Actually, that's exactly what happened. For example, the old msuper V3/ACM hill failures showed that the mosfets generally blow at the same time the thin motor cabling back then melted. Usually, it was the mosfets, but sometimes it was the cabling. So they had a reliable ceiling what they could or could not do (which was about the same as the cabling's ceiling). I count the few insta-exploding mosfets as bad from the start, and they simply died at the first sign of a real current. The point is, mosfet behavior is predictable. I know you want to make a distinction between high current and overheating, but isn't that 99% the same? Again, my shitty ACM mosfets were stronger than the cabling. So it is reasonable to assume the stronger Nikola mosfets were really just a victim of the bad board assembly/lack of cooler contact. Whether the Nikola currents really are higher (or just reported as higher) and how the wheel will behave on the overheat hill with a good board is still unknown. Yes, the low temperature reading is conspicuous but it might very well be that properly cooled mosfets will survive much longer and the temperature (wherever it is measured) will have gone up by then, so the wheel will just throw the standard overheat warning. We'll see.
  4. I would treat them as fantasy numbers coming somewhere out of the electronics. How much they have to do with reality is an unanswered question, and if they even matter is also a good question. They're only good for empirically comparing behavior between the same or similar wheels in various situations. Also there's a huge difference between a spike (which may or may not be just a mathematical artifact in some way) and a continuous power draw and the associated current (a much more stable piece of information). But in general, pendulums are extreme stress/heat, so don't overdo it
  5. More like price gouging There's no reason for boards and motors to cost north of 200 other than price gouging. Especially Gotway is known for selling overpriced parts.
  6. Not my video. "The guy that Jason always sends wheels to" takes off the kid gloves and tries an MSX.
  7. Thinking about this the last day or two, I'm (wishfully) thinking this really was just a manufacturing error. After all, even my shitty ACM mosfets didn't fry when my cables melted. So it's unlikely the mosfets would have died with proper cooling contact. Really grateful you plan to repeat the test with the new board, Marty! That will tell. Still hoping for the Nikola100V/MSX(?) board on future 84V versions though (or at least on the 2100Wh which I'm aiming for).
  8. How stupid is that?! Seriously, how do they even come up with something like this? - I'll reserve my opinion for the final production wheel with worked out kinks, but I'm surprised this has so many weak points. I expected it to be totally fine except for the ugly looks (but if the performance is right...). Hmm...
  9. Contact @Jason McNeil at ewheels.com,maybe he can help and sell you the upgrade parts. But you might very well grow out the upgraded battery as quickly as you've grown out of this wheel. So consider skipping the upgrade and going for a "real" wheel right away. You have a nice learner, but I'm not sure if investing more into it makes sense (also a money question, of course, but battery upgrades are usually very price-inefficient).
  10. @OUNCESMUSIC Are those just regular gloves? Get real wrist guards! Most important piece of equipment after the wheel itself
  11. Please be true! They should have done that from the beginning. Maybe the 100V Nikola Plus board is just the MSX board.
  12. Here's a picture of the TO-247 package in the MCM5 (on the bottom right). They're so big, you can't confuse the different types. The black casings nearly touch each other. I wasn't going to ask as I guess Marty has no interest in doing this. But since you mentioned it... - I'm too wondering if it was only a build quality problem, or if the wheel would have fried anyways due to design. That unusually high current needs to be explained.
  13. Yep!! That's the most frustrating thing. Was like this 3 years ago, still is like this now. They always manage to incorporate some decision that is not only really stupid, but also really unnecessary, for absolutely no good reason. It's like there's a curse that says every manufacturer must have at least one f**k-up per model.
  14. Wow that video! What you say while knowing what is going to happen. Horror show. "This baby is not going to overheat on overheat hill, I tell you that. Only thing that might happen, I'll blow a mosfet. I'm joking *chuckles* * theatrical gesture* Please Gotway don't burn up on me!" And then... the disassembly. One can hear your incredulity at the details. "Oh Gotway *exhales* will you ever learn?" You really have to wonder what the point of the huge heatsink and huge board space was. Let's hope this results in a better 84V board for the Nikola.
  15. MSX: didn't even get hot. Robust beyond all doubt, as seen from @EUC GUY's videos (car push test + mountain test like Marty's hill, but longer).. MCM5: didn't even get hot. 18S: juuuust made it to the top without overheating. 18XL: overheated shortly before the top. Runs quite hot in general. V10F: overheated shortly before the top. Z10: I forgot, but I believe it overheated. I hope I remember correctly. Thank you again Marty for all the tests.
  16. FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUšŸ¤¬ I can't believe they regressed back to ACM/msuper V3 level electronics. Not even overheating, just the good old board fry. What's wrong with these people??!! Please make a video. Including both the fall and the autopsy. Public visibility of problems is one of the only things making manufacturers change things. I really, really hope your Nikola will just be the first batch, beta-version in a year. And both the 84V and 100V future versions will all have the TO-247 board that the 100V Nikola Plus alread has. Thanks for your sacrifices, Marty, it is appreciated Can't wait to see what unnecessary first batch problem the 16X is going to have (let's be realistic). So much for my new wheel dream this year. I should have bought an MSX a year ago.
  17. Thank you! But I actually just realized the image was wrong (45kph is at 10%, not 0%). So only 90% correct. I fixed it
  18. @Jason McNeil Would you kindly ask Gotway for the 3rd alarm speeds for the Nikola? Just fill this out Thanks!
  19. I corrected it, the 4p is just the 1230Wh but you asked the 1845Wh which is 6p Why? Both 100V Monster and Nikola are 1845Wh (6p). There's no 1230Wh 100V Monster I know of.
  20. We've already arrived at that conclusion, otherwise everything is chaos. Battery percentage is whatever the wheel shows at every moment, the end. So real life behavior can be more confusing. 6x24 cells with 3450mAh. Yes the 1230Wh is 4p, not 6p. Not sure whether it's really such a limit though.
  21. Did you catch a tropical disease while on holiday (in Thailand I presume)? I hope you're really ok with no long term consequences. In doubt, have doctors double and triple check so no bad surprises appear later (maybe even years later)!! Just like wheel malfunctions, do not rest until you have a 100% explanation Welcome back, but be careful
  22. I love how you make more investigative videos recently! All I have heard is that one guy from Gotway left and started Kingsong. I imagine some epic story of disagreement, betrayal, and intense competition between former allies who are now bitter rivals. Maybe I'm dramatizing it in my head So both big EUC manufacturers have a common origin.
  23. That wasn't serious. I just showed a response as overblown as (yet still more correct than) eddiemoy's anti-Gotway crusade and battery math
