Popular Post .....
4 minutes ago, Scottie said: My 1st trip with a wheel I have read the chatter about traveling with a wheel. Until recently, all I have done was put a wheel in the car to take it somewhere for a ride. But a week ago I traveled to a planet somewhere near @ShanesPlanet. I took the 18XL since it is the easiest to handle, with a narrow profile that lays flat on a passenger seat of a car, and looks the most dignified trolleying in and out of a hotel elevator. It performed well hauling me up and down the fairly steep hills in the area. It was nice having something fun to do during the off-time. I rode the wheel day and night exploring the area around the hotel. Now I cannot imagine going on a trip without a wheel. There are a lot of practicalities with having one on a trip. I picked a favorite convenience store to stop in and get a protein drink on the morning rides. The store clerks were amused by an old fart riding a wheel like a circus bear. The wheel prodigy I have not been able to see the new wheel man in my area for a couple of weeks. He has been released to go back to work and I have also been back on the job. Luckily I rode with him yesterday for a couple hours. Now that he is rolling large, I am trying to learn from him. He is inspiring me now! Last weekend he rode with the Indy crew while I was out of town and they were having some fun riding down stairs. One of the guys let Clint try his S18 to ride down some stairs. Clint said that felt luxurious (I paraphrase) compared to his Nik. But he still loves his Nik that @c5flybyu found for him in Chicago. I guess the best I can do is try to get some of his skills on video. I will never be able to imitate the wild skater ... too big ... too old. His age, his size, and his natural ability reminds me of Chooch. For a cat that has been rolling just under a month, he is amazing. If you have 4 minutes and 36 seconds to spare, watch the latest video called Clint's Highlights. It is set to appropriate music from back in the day. Planetary radar picked you up before you even got out of the vehicle. No worries, its programmed to stand down, if it sees an euc is in tow. Tbh, the 18XL is also my goto wheel when I'm going walkabouts. The sherm is nice, but most travel spots arent wide open roads. The mten is nice, but sometimes you want to go further or more comfy. Yup, even after all this time, the 18 is a simple wheel to toss in a car on its side. You really should find a RollNZ cover for it and snag an old 18L mudflap. WIth those upgrades, you dont even need lay the whel down, just drop the little lady. Thanks for the shout out. Looks like you had a good time. Yup, I NEVER leave town without a wheel, especially if Im staying for any duration. Hell, you may find me riding around a rural hotel at 3am smokin' a cig. Popular Post Scottie
Grass ... ... is fun because it hides the surface and teaches the reflexes to react quickly to the hidden irregularities. But sometimes the irregularities are too irregular; such as when there is a hole hidden by the grass that is large enough to gobble up a wheel up to it's pedals and stop it cold! Recently - This one stopped the wheel so abruptly and caught me by surprise so that I was not able to run off. Luckily I was just rolling along at a fast jogging pace. I fell on the sidewalk and landed on my hands and the right side of my hip. The wrist guards saved my wrists and hands. Immediately after the fall I felt that I was unscathed, so I finished my ride ... shaken ... not stirred! But the next day I found that my hip was mildly bruised and my right shoulder was sore for a few weeks from catching myself. My younger self would have been fine. My older self, on the other hand ... (is just as stubborn). This hole must have had a sign post in it back in the day. On this day there was a wheel in it! A couple months ago - This well hidden hole is in the drainage area between a road and a soccer field. I suspect the hole goes down to a drainage pipe. Somehow I found it with the wheel, and it did the same thing ... stopped the wheel so fast that it felt like it stopped the day before ... but I managed to run off this time. Sometimes the feet are ready to go, and sometimes they have their minds elsewhere ... standing there like a deer in the headlights. There is a hole here somewhere. And it is big enough to eat a wheel. How did I find this little hole in this big area?
Popular Post Scottie
The Weather and The Mten3 As usual ... right-click a link and 'Open in New Tab' to preserve the flow of the story. The recent change in the weather here drove me to fix the flat tire on the Mten3 because I need something to ride around inside the house when it is horrible outside. That is something that only works well on an Mten3 ... at least for me. (I don't do this when the wife is home! ) And as most of us can agree that there is nothing worse than an EUC rider being stuck inside because of bad weather and not being able to ride! Up to now I have been putting it off because my free time has been spent riding ... not fixing a wheel. But while I have been riding, I have been thinking about that flat tire. I am a lazy old fart and so I always look for the easy way, and I prefer to not disturb things where I don't have to. Sometimes the wrench does more harm than good. If something is broke hard, then there is no more harm that can be done ... might as well tear into it. But if something is running well and just needs one little thing, like a tire that holds air, then I let my laziness take over and find me an easy way. I read @OnOff post on the subject and searched for the correct valve, the same valve that is on the Segway MiniPro wheel. At the same time I take heed to this caution. But I use the Mten3 as a driveway or patio toy. Or in extreme cases ... riding around in the house dodging furniture to help keep the reflexes sharp! So it does not get much mileage, and what little mileage there was on it, was enough to cause it to get the common tube pinch/abrasion flat, exacerbated by the heavy load that it has to carry. I did do a little reading on the subject about the main difference between tubeless and tube type tires. The way I use the wheel ... not afraid! And the tire looks exactly like the tubeless tire on the MiniPro, except the markings are different. I did not get to look inside the tire to see the inner surface. I used a couple of C clamps to squeeze and hold the tire so that I could access the inner tube area around the valve. I cut the valve free from the tube with wire cutters / dikes / side cutters (whatever you like to call them) and wiggled the valve out. Then I started pulling the tube out with needle nose pliers, and cutting and pulling until the tube was completely cut through. It was then an easy matter to pull the tube out the tire. No Mten3 exterior parts or internal parts (innards) were disturbed during the operation! The new valve fit the hole perfectly. I put some Slime on it as lubricant and installed it just like @MEX9 did. I added a couple ounces (29 mL) of Slime for good measure. On 9/23/2021 at 4:21 PM, MEX9 said: Once I'd lined up the valve with my fingers, I used the gold extender to pull the valve tight into the hole. As you can see, the valve fits fine with no clearance issues. The only thing that could be better, would be the tire being marked "Tubeless". My laziness says, "That may come after I see what this set up can do". Tip: Accidental discovery ... after inserting a picture into a post, you can double-click on the photo and change the size. OldFartRides
I did a quick search, and someone on ADV claims that tubeless tires have a butyl rubber lining that acts as the tube for cast wheels. Of course, let us know your results.
Unventor
I hope that tire can double as tubeless tire too. Not all have that option. If it doesn't hold out I guess you have some explaining to do to the wife. Wife: how on earth er did that green sticky stuff on the walls cealing and furniture? Wife: and why do you have that bump on your head?🤕 Husband: ehh well these new movies are so immersive these days. That new Ghost buster movie is just amazing.

Paul A
Can place two fingers onto the screen of a phone, then slide them apart to make pictures/text/screen display etc to be bigger/magnified to whatever size desired. Lift off the two fingers. Can then use one finger to slide/move the image around to view other parts of the image Edited November 16, 2021 by Paul A Additional info. Popular Post OldFartRides
Didn’t want to start a new thread just for an enjoyable ride, so I thought I’d drop this here. This thread was inspiring for me last spring when I was starting out on this new adventure. Since then I have logged over 700 miles on my wheels. I didn’t have anything so pressing today that I couldn’t blow it off and go for a ride, so I did. Wasn’t sure which direction to head. Kind of dithered around a bit doing a few errands, and as the sun was getting lower, decided to go to the city park and revisit the bike trails that were built this summer. I parked at the locked gates near the ball fields. Low and behold, the road was freshly paved. I enjoyed that mile of unblemished flatness, did a lap on both trails, and headed back to the Samurai in reverse on that traffic free road by the lake. And then I rode it again in that cold afternoon sun. Quiet. No people. Just a few birds to witness my mindless relaxation. I don’t throw this word around much, but it was perfect.

Some of your ideas are not mine, and sometimes I need to process them as they are hard to swallow, but I fully respect them and I take my Alka Seltzer 😁 One thing that worries me though: with all the seat belt fines... when are you going to start selling your EUCs to pay for them? 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Take care and keep on hitting strong here at the forum!... and yes you dug yourself into a hole... but I've been in great expectancy that did precisely that. A debate without you, is a lot less fun. And this one needed you in it! Cheers. Expand Expand I had to look that one up. I dunno bro, I have a moral compass. I also have a religion. I also think that both of those things are mine and mine alone to view as I see fit. They don't always align with the popular opinion, but it makes sense in my own head. I was thinking maybe more like a narcissist. It does make for good reading when odd opinions arrive. I kidnapped this bit of conversation from here. That thread was closed, so I could not continue it there. I was just surfing some YouTube and ran across a video that repeated a word that I first heard @Paulo Mesquita use! That was such a unique word to me that it tattooed itself on my brain. This video might help clear all this up since it clarifies / defines these words and a few others. I think @ShanesPlanet is right. But I think I might be a nihilist! Lets see ... I just watched it. I think I am a part-time nihilist. You will definitely elect this book to a bedside table "must". https://www.amazon.com/Siddhartha-Novel-Hermann-Hesse/product-reviews/0553208845
