A few weeks back I rode along an old rail trail converted to a bike path. The local crushed rock industry runs several mines in the area. Crossing the road closest to one mine, a sign on the trail warned that at a given day and time each week the company blasts rock. At one point the trail, which sits a few feet below the mine rim, provides a view to the tiered opposite side. The company operates another mine very close to the house where I lived in Salem. When they blasted the ground rock in the nearby quarry it monetarily transmits a shake wave which could be felt. Google feature topography is sometimes surreal. In the 1960s, while living in proximity to the Hazleton strip mine areas , my Dad went to an industry specific conference in Atlantic City (pre- Trump casino era) featuring various production task specific machines for corporate purchase. We stayed a little South of Atlantic City and on one day climbed the stairs to the top of 'Lucy'.

The giant elephant is unusual, and so is the seen from above angle.

Several miners became trapped below when the mine roof caved in and trapped them. It's called the Sheppton (coal) mine fall disaster. Old mine technique removes coal from chambers and leaves a regular matrix of unmined 'pillars' which bear the burden of the stone and rock above. Rumor at the time indicates these miners were 'robbing the pillars'. In any event it made headlines. I went with my Dad one night to the flood light lit recovery scene. A small diameter bore hole found them and provided stuff like food, water and other stuff. Then a man sized bore hole was made to ultimately retrieve the miners. http://m.standardspeaker.com/news/historical-marker-for-sheppton-mine-disaster-dedicated-1.1930523 Years (decades) later I revisited the site. I seem to remember dropping a small stone into the smaller bore hole and waiting awhile before it hit water below. A third miner was never recovered. Funding for the rescue was made by Howard Hughes. The Howard Hughes Medical foundation supported work (1990s and forward) in muscular dystrophy at Children's Hospital (Boston). I worked on the same floor as the recipient of that grant funding for over a decade. Edited January 2, 2018 by Bob Eisenman

That's 21-27 deg C for the rest of the civilised world Have you run out of film? I think some nice photos of the beautiful pōhutukawa trees in full bloom this time of year, with you and wheel nearby, would garner many likes and bragging rights. Bob Eisenman
A little off topic but.... The Scituate, Mass harbor Master was trying to tighten up really loose mooring lines to the harbor master's boat (big) and got tugged into the water from the dock ..... and then rescued....? http://scituate.wickedlocal.com/news/20180104/scituate-harbormaster-rescued-from-icy-waters Water flowed into and down the stairs from the street entrance (until sand bagged) at the 'Aquarium' Blue Line subway stop down along Boston Harbor.
