It looks fairly wide between outer battery surfaces (pre pad placement) - does anyone have a figure for this dimension, just trying to compare the width between the legs with other existing wheels. A real-life measurement or even any notional dimension given would be very helpful, TIA. I’m interested in this too. It looks fairly wide and I’m worried it won’t be very comfortable. Also, the corner looks too sharp. I usually prefer narrow wheels. Are there anybody from this forum who has access to sample units? 2

Popular Post Rawnei
Stainless Steel can be magnetic so not sure how he knows for sure they will rust? However the power-button and the motorcable cover those are both concerning, definitely an ingress point for moisture there and the power-button could get damaged and come off with time, these are definitely things that KS should improve. Would be nice if the bumper had an outer soft layer like TPU or Rubber or whatever, the lights could be more robust.

Rawnei
@Planemo de ja vu 🤣 @Jack ex-KS any input here? Still have influence over at KS? 😁 are the screws stainless steel? Could we get more water protection on the motor cable cover (some sort of sealing?), more robust power switch, more robust bumper (outer Rubber/TPU?) and more robust headlights? 😉 Would be a shame if easily fixable things like that would drag and otherwise robust looking wheel down. Paradox
I didn't see a cooling fan or a large heat sink. Tire changes look challenging. Hopefully there will be a quicker way than removing the battery shells. I can't wait until videos surface showing more. 1
Paul A
KS usually produce tear down/disassembly/repair etc videos and have them on their YouTube channel.

I can’t believe I’m buying this crap just because a business in a country ruled by the communist party got it out with the right specs on paper first. We’re incentivizing something that doesn’t benefit us. At least there’s a healthy aftermarket for parts and mods. I might start selling screw assortments and proper parts to finish the project. 1

Pretty easy to correct though. 3 hours ago, Funky said: The "front red bumper" should be metal Maybe? It's a sacrificial component, a crumple zone if you will. I don't know how 'stiff' you want it to be since it transfers the energy as a spreading force to the battery boxes. Fully expecting to have a broken handle/bumper, or remove it altogether as in many/most of the riding videos out of CN. The roll cage on the Sherman is a fantastic handle, a great mounting point, and a sacrificial element... it bends in a crash to save the rest of the wheel. 3 hours ago, Funky said: Lights "plastic cage" should also be metal Metal remembers its impacts (bends), maybe plastic is more forgiving? Time will tell. In general though, it looks like a reasonable design to me. Yes, a rubber cover over the power switch seems like a better idea as would sealing the hole to the button, but on the other hand, it's a drain should you get condensation in the control board box. Sure, more stainless would be great and shouldn't cost too much more, but remember that at retail you pay a 5x multiplier over the wholesale cost of each screw so there's a certain 'pick your poison'. Given the liberal use of plastics in our existing wheels, at least they've beefed things up closer to what we'll need to withstand the hard riding that this was intended for. And since when have we been reluctant to add 3D printed parts and yoga mats and duct tape to our wheels—how shocking is it really that this tradition will continue? Makers, tune up your printers! Tire changes look to be an involved process for sure though, not much advancement there! BTW, being made of plastic isn't automatically less good than being made of metal. There are (more expensive) resins that are very strong, very flexible, and surprisingly durable. I once worked on a portable product where we ran over our plastic equipment with a pumper fire truck loaded with water (1000 gallons/3800 liters?) for our marketing pitch... the proper plastic is amazing. Paul A
Maybe have front bumpers similar to helmets? Shock absorbing foam inside a protective shell, that can be easily removed and replaced as a spare part. 2

Paul A
Hopefully any impact on the current bumpers will not transmit force and damage the rest of the attached parts. Like bending/twisting and making it difficult to replace.

nosamplesplease
Jack warned us about the lack of waterproofing. "How much sales are going to come from us actually achieving an IP rating?" Apparently its impossible to attain with the current design. Seals are absent all over. As pretty as this wheel looks, I'm not buying it until some attempt is made to keep water out. Would be able to ride this about 1 month a year here in the pacific northwest. Its a fair-weather wheel. I've used it for other electronic products and it seems to work well.
