Russia likely to redeploy forces from Mariupol to other areas without preparation - British intel

Due to high pressure to achieve gains on the battlefield, Russian commanders are likely to redistribute their forces from Mariupol to other directions without proper preparation.

That’s according to an update by British Defense Intelligence, Ukrinform reports.

“Staunch Ukrainian resistance in Mariupol since the start of the war means Russian forces in the area must be re-equipped and refurbished before they can be redeployed effectively.

This can be a lengthy process when done thoroughly.

Russian commanders, however, are under pressure to demonstrably achieve operational objectives.

This means that Russia will probably redistribute their forces swiftly without adequate preparation, which risks further force attrition,” the report says.

It is noted that, once Russia has secured Mariupol, it is likely they will move their forces to reinforce operations in the Donbas.

The report says the number of Ukrainian soldiers remaining inside the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol remains unknown after some 1,700 soldiers got out of the factory.

EU transfers EUR 600M to Ukraine – von der Leyen

The European Union has disbursed a new tranche of EUR 600 million to Ukraine and is working on a procedure to provide an additional EUR 9 billion loan by the end of this year.

According to Ukrinform, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote this on her Twitter account.

"Today, we disbursed a new tranche of €600 million in Macro-Financial Assistance to Ukraine. More is coming - we proposed an additional €9 billion loan for Ukraine in 2022. Beyond relief, we'll work on a reconstruction platform to help rebuild Ukraine as a free, democratic country," she said.

Russia’s Gazprom to cut Finland off from its natural gas

Finland’s state-owned energy firm Gasum has announced that Russia’s Gazprom will cease supplying it with natural gas on Saturday.

The move follows Finland’s official application for membership in NATO this week and a Russian energy company halting electricity exports to the nation.

Gasum CEO Mika Wiljanen said Gazprom has informed Gasum that the gas will stop flowing at 7 a.m. local time on Saturday.

“It is highly regrettable that natural gas supplies under our supply contract will now be halted,” Wiljanen said. “However, we have been carefully preparing for this situation and provided that there will be no disruptions in the gas transmission network, we will be able to supply all our customers with gas in the coming months.”

Gasum said gas filling stations in Finland will maintain normal operations.

It said it will now obtain gas through the Balticconnector pipeline, which links Finland to Estonia and gives it access to natural gas from Latvia.

Finland buys most of its natural gas from Russia, but natural gas accounts for only about 5 percent of Finnish energy consumption.

Russia bans 963 Americans, including Biden and Harris — but not Trump

On Saturday, the Russian Foreign Ministry published an updated list of 963 Americans barred from entering Russia — a largely symbolic move featuring a wide-ranging collection of Biden administration members, Republicans, tech executives, journalists, lawmakers who have died, regular U.S. citizens and even actor Morgan Freeman.

One prominent name missing from the list: former president Donald Trump.

In fact, the only prominent Trump administration official included in the ban is former secretary of state Mike Pompeo.

THE bodies of dead Russian soldiers have been piling up on refrigerated trains, a video shows.

The claim, made by Ukraine in a video released Friday, comes after reports Vladimir Putin has lost nearly 30,000 of his troops in battle.

The footage, shared by Ukraine's railway chief Alexander Kamyshin, describes how Ukraine preserves the bodies of the fatalities.

The captions reads: "We treat dead #russians better than they treat live #ukrainians. Just another thing that makes us different."

The clip states that Ukraine preserves the bodies "according to humanitarian law, to release them to mothers and wives."

It adds: "Russia hides real losses from families. To avoid panic and to avoid payment of compensations."

The video then explains how Ukraine preserves the bodies by storing them in refrigerated trains.

It adds that the railway is ready to deliver "cargo 200" to Russia- a Soviet military code term referring to war casualties.

FIREFIGHTERS battle blaze at major Russian aerospace institute amid claims of 'sabotage' behind infernos at strategic facilities during war with Ukraine.

The inferno seen on videos is the latest at strategic Russian sites during the war with Ukraine with suspicions that some may be sabotage.

The fire began at a power substation supplying the institute, 43 miles southeast of Moscow, which has been crucial to the development of aircraft such as the Su-27, MiG-29, and MiG-31 fighters as well as various rockets. It was also involved in the development of the Tu-204 and the Il-96-300.

Russian diplomat resigns protesting Putin’s ‘aggressive war’

A diplomat at Russia’s mission to the United Nations in Geneva has resigned over the war in Ukraine, writing that he has never been “so ashamed” of his country, in a rare public rebuke of the war from within the Russian government.

In a letter circulated to colleagues in Geneva and posted on a LinkedIn account in his name, Boris Bondarev, counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, said he had left the civil service Monday.

“For twenty years of my diplomatic career I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been so ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year,” he wrote, referring to the date the invasion was launched.

“The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia, with a bold letter Z crossing out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous free society in our country.”

The ministry of today, he writes “is not about diplomacy,” but “warmongering, lies and hatred.”

Ukraine Army hits Russian command post with NATO-standard howitzer

The artillery men of the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Zakarpattia Brigade have hit a Russian command post from a distance of more than 20 kilometers with a NATO-standard howitzer.

The relevant statement was made by the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Zakarpattia Brigade on Facebook, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The slow-motion drone video shows the impact of the 155 mm projectile and powerful explosion.

The target was located more than 20 kilometers away and, thus, the accurate shot clearly demonstrates the high precision of weapons, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine have already received and will receive in the future.

US President Joe Biden said on Monday he would be willing to intervene militarily to defend Taiwan, warning that China was “flirting with danger” if it tried to seize the democratic island by force.

Asked in a Tokyo press conference if – following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – he would be “willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if it comes to that?” he responded: “Yes...that’s a commitment we made.”

He added: “The idea that it could be taken by force, just taken by force, is just not..it would dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine. So, it’s a burden that’s even stronger.”

Russia installs on warships components from China-made household appliances – intelligence report

Due to international sanctions imposed on Russia, certain components of Chinese-produced household appliances have been installed on some Russian warships.

This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, as seen by Ukrinform.

The Ukrainian spy agency adds that the sailors with the 106th brigade of surface ships of the Caspian flotilla of Russia’s Southern Military District, part of a naval group involved in the war against Ukraine, are now refusing to perform combat missions due to the emergency state of their ships.

The occupiers decided to pen secret letters to Vladimir Putin and defense chief Sergei Shoigu to expose financial scheming by their commanders.

Denmark offers Ukraine Harpoon missiles to fight Russia’s Black Sea blockade

Denmark’s plan to send Harpoon anti-ship missiles and a launcher to Ukraine would provide Kyiv with an advanced weapon that can poke a hole in Russia’s naval blockade, potentially allowing for the resumption of grain exports via the Black Sea.

The United States developed Harpoon missiles during the Cold War.

They are highly versatile and can be fired from surface ships, submarines, aircraft and land-based launch vehicles.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin did not specify what variant Copenhagen had offered to send, but a 2013 guide to the missile system by manufacturer Boeing states that coastal defense systems use the land-based option.

Turkey to discuss NATO roadblock with Swedish, Finnish delegations
ISTANBUL — Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that senior Turkish officials, including Ibrahim Kalin, an adviser to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, would hold “consultations” with delegations from Sweden and Finland on Wednesday in Ankara.

Sweden and Finland have applied to join NATO in reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — but Turkey, an influential member of the defense alliance, has expressed misgivings about their accession, accusing the Nordic nations of harboring Kurdish separatists.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Stoltenberg said he was “confident” that any security concerns regarding Finland’s and Sweden’s membership bids could be resolved.

I wonder when will putin give up? He has already made himself a ass in everybody eyes. Incompetent leaders should be removed from any kind of power.

I don't see them taking Ukraine any time soon. Like they even could.. Makes me laugh. It's sad that Russian soldiers still continue doing what they are told. Jesus use some brains, start thinking for yourself - sheeps.

Could have sent one nuke and be done.. Genocide by guns vs one nuke. I think one/two nukes would have been faster and easier. < Because that's what he's doing there. Only difference is that he's killing also his own army.

It amazes me, the idiot and inner circle hasn't been shot already.

RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin sits hunched over and twitches amid alleged 'poor health'.

New footage shows Putin today having a meeting with his close ally Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko.

He was awkwardly perched on his chair and sat hunched forward in front of the cameras during the meeting in Sochi.

His left foot appears to continuously move as he unnaturally pivots on his heel three times in less than one minute.

Ukraine's actions limited activities of Russian navy in Black Sea - intelligence

Ukraine's Armed Forces have forced the Russian navy to avoid approaching Ukraine's coast.

According to Ukrinform, the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said this on Telegram, citing Vadym Skibitskyi, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate.

"They have become cautious, but their naval grouping today, unfortunately, provides full control of the Sea of Azov, and this is clear, along with the Kerch Strait, and they are now blocking our ports on the Black Sea," he said.

According to Skibitskyi, Russia's goal is to inflict economic losses on Ukraine in order to prevent the functioning of Ukrainian ports as economic zones.

"[The Russians want] to prevent the movement of goods both on the territory of Ukraine and from the territory of our ports, and maintain their readiness to use large landing ships, other ships in the event of a sea landing operation. But I will say again - our actions have forced them to limit the activities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet at this stage," he said.

Mariupol death toll stands at 22,000 – mayor's adviser

At least 22,000 residents of Mariupol have already been killed as a result of Russian aggression.

According to Ukrinform, Petro Andriushchenko, an adviser to the city mayor, told this to CNN.

"Mariupol is now a city of ghosts," he said.

Andriushchenko added that the figure of 22,000 is based on the many contacts he and other town hall officials continue to have with officials trapped inside. But he believes the actual figure could be much higher.

The mayor's adviser also said that the process of reburying the dead has been complicated by Russian official insistence that reclaimed bodies be brought to a morgue and that a person claiming a body must agree to record a video in which the applicant says the deceased was killed by the Ukrainian military.
