Popular Post Mortal Coil
Hi all, Here was my orginal newbie post when I was looking for my proper commuter wheel. I was tossing up between the 18XL and the 16X. Thanks to everyone who responded. I nearly went for a 18XL, but the 16X narrowly won out. My wife agreed to let me drop (AUD) $3K on a new wheel plus $1K on safety gear, provided I sold my unnecessarily large SUV and bought a smaller cheaper wagon. The car still hasn't sold yet, but I was looking so hang dog that she let me buy the wheel in advance. Whoo hoo!! I could suddenly stop researching gear and put my credit card to work! Bits and pieces have been arriving for the last two weeks and the wheel finally arrived yesterday! The difference betweeen the ancient Gotway MCM2 that I was riding and the 16X is massive. Like @Trevor Phillipsput it, I've gone from a Barbie Car to a Range Rover. I've only been on two rides but the range and stability is astonishing! interestingly, even though the new wheel is three times the wieght and the pedals are a lot higher it is actually easier to take off on as I can brace my leg higher up and get more leverage. The nice big pedals are a huge improvement too. So behold. This is me having just contracted EUC mania. Ancient second hand wheel, my 25 year old roller blading gear and my bike helmet. And this is me now. A fully blown case... Kingsong 16X with custom Roll.nz bodyguard (nice work @The Fat Unicyclist), Leatt Dual Axis knee guards, Cordura motorcycle jacket, Flexmeter wrist guards, Shift Whit3 motorcross gloves, TSG Pass helmet. Now if it would only stop raining so I can get out and ride... Edited February 1, 2020 by Mortal Coil

Mortal Coil
Yes I did. My old riding gear just as I got into EUCs vs my new riding gear. Your point?

Mortal Coil
At least that! The weight of the new wheel was not something I was mentally prepared for. To turn you have to REALLY want to turn. Same thing to stop.

I don't lean back to brake very much.

Popular Post Mortal Coil
I did my first commute this morning. It was interesting riding to a time schedule than just for fun, It caused me to push the wheel more than I normally would and I found myself bouncing off the 40km/h limit that I put on the wheel more often. The higher speeds showed how imperfect foot placement affects wheel oscillation. With lots of stop/start and lots of dismounting/mounting I didn't always have my feet positioned perfectly. This is really an area that I'm going to have to work on. Overall it was great! It turned what until now has been the low light of my day (my daily commute) into the high light and only took 10 minutes longer.
MexicanBatman
Give yourself some more time and try and enjoy the ride, rather than riding at speed to reach your destination you’ll ride slower and have more fun And if you push it too hard and the adrenaline kicks in and you get the leg wobbles stop and walk it off

Well, some people need to gain a few scars (for life) before they learn.
Mortal Coil
Just finished stitching stainless thread into the index finger of my riding glove so that I can use my phone. It’s not brilliant, but I’ve managed to post this with my glove on! Should be good enough to manage DarknessBot and answer phone calls. Had my first commuter spill this afternoon. Just rounded a sharp corner after the end of a long run and forgot there was a bollard in the middle of the path. I wasn’t going fast, but object fixation kicked in and I ended up clipping the bollard and spilling onto my side. I was fine and got right back up, but a post ride inspection of my gear showed that my knee guards and cordura jacket probably saved me from some grazes. I also learned that the bottom 50% of a 1.07 KS16X’s battery is not a happy place. It’s going to be a full overnight charge from now on! With the excellent changes KS made in the 2.0 and 2.01 fw update to the 18XL and 16S, that totally changed the wheels, there might be hope that they can do some tuning to the power hungry 2200W motor in a future update.
