Finland's parliament is holding a final debate on a bill aimed at speeding up the country's application for NATO membership.
The debate coincides with a visit to Helsinki from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Speaking alongside Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin, he said now is the time to allow both Finland and Sweden to join the alliance.
Two NATO members, Turkey and Hungary, are still standing in the way of these memberships.

As DW's Teri Schultz reports, Turkey's opposition is causing the most concern.

Pro-Ukrainian drone 'lands on dome' of Russian £274M spy plane before explosions damage aircraft

Dramatic video appears to show the moment an audacious pro-Ukrainian sabotage team flew two drones up close to a £274 million Russian Beriev A-50U spy plane before allegedly causing it severe damage.

Extraordinary footage shows a lack of airfield defences in Belarus as the small drones were able to get close to the fibreglass dome of the aircraft, housing the rotating antenna of the powerful Shmel radar complex.

One drone even lands on the dome before taking off again during a reconnaissance mission.

Another drone reconnoitres the Putin A-50U before the screen suddenly goes blank.

It is not clear if this is the moment of detonation, and if so, the scale of any explosion.

The footage is from Machulishchi military base, near Minsk.

Russian troops refuse to obey orders in Ukraine: 'It's complete b******t'

Russian soldiers released a video stating they are refusing to obey commands from superiors.

Russia's Wagner Group has claimed to have taken "all the eastern part" of Bakhmut, the Ukrainian town where fighting has raged for weeks.
Pressure has been mounting on Ukrainian troops trying to hold the town against Russian soldiers hoping to capture it no matter the cost.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Wagner chief and Kremlin ally, said in an audio message released by his press service that "Wagner units have taken all the eastern part of Bakhmut, all that's east of the Bakhmutka river" which bisects the town.

Ukraine has not yet commented, but president Volodymyr Zelensky has said the army is intent on defending Bakhmut and warned that Russians would have an "open road" into eastern Ukraine if the town was captured.

'I'd rather be in prison' - Russian soldiers turn mutinous on their commanders

Russians sent to fight on the front lines are mutinying, fighting amongst themselves, getting locked in basements and lost in the chaos of a faltering offensive, a flurry of videos and messages from inside Vladimir Putin's army show.
Recently mobilised soldiers are refusing orders to face "certain death" by joining "human wave" attacks that they say are destroying entire units at a time.

Some are appealing directly to Mr Putin in desperate videos, while others are standing up to Kremlin officials sent to quell the rebellion.
Reports are emerging of fighters being locked underground for declining to become targets in the "shooting range" that has become the front line.

Poland says it will be first NATO country to give fighter jets to Ukraine

WARSAW — Poland will deliver an initial batch of four Soviet-made MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, Polish President Andrzej Duda said Thursday, ramping up pressure on other NATO allies to make similar commitments.

The planes are in “full working order” and will be delivered in “the next few days,” Duda said at a news conference in Warsaw alongside his Czech counterpart, Petr Pavel. The delivery would mark the first time any of Ukraine’s NATO allies have delivered jets.

“We are literally sending these MiGs to Ukraine at this moment,” he said.

Ukraine already has its own MiG-29s, meaning that Ukrainian pilots will be able to fly them without additional training, Duda said.

In February, Britain announced that it would begin training Ukrainian pilots on fighter jets used by NATO.

Both British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron have said they have not ruled out contributing fighter jets to Ukraine, but they suggested that nothing would be immediate.

The Slovak government approved sending 13 MIG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, Prime Minister Eduard Heger said on Friday, stepping up its military assistance to Kyiv in its fight against the Russian invasion.
Slovakia is the second country to send war planes to Kyiv after Poland, which announced on Thursday it would do so.

Its fleet of MiG-29 planes was retired last summer, and most of them are not in operational condition.
It will send those that are operational, and the rest will go for spare parts.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Turkey would start the process of ratifying Finland's NATO membership bid in parliament, saying that the country had taken "sincere and concrete steps" to allay Turkey's concerns about Finland hosting Kurds and other opposition forces who fled Turkey.

The breakthrough came as Finnish President Sauli Niinisto was in Ankara to meet with Erdogan and 10 months after both Finland and Sweden applied to become NATO members in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, having remained neutral throughout the Cold War.
