Very new- need advice please!

Hi all.  I haven't even seen, yet alone ridden an EU, but I want to buy one and learn.  Although I probably could run to a Ninebot, I'm reluctant to spend so much and then find I can't learn to ride it (although quite fit, I'm 64).  I used to waterski years ago and have driven extremely fast motorcycles but not with (or on) one wheel!

So, can anybody help with the following units... a Yoobao - seen these for around £200 on Ebay.  This other model has no name but is similar in design to the ninebot but has 14" wheel...I'm attracted by the 264 watt battery..but put off as it's from China and the postage is £100...EBAY listing at present is 221 886 521 857. The other one I fancy is the 16" zipwheel for around £250.00.

I'm based on The Wirral near Liverpool, UK and any help appreciated.  If I can learn, I'm hoping my wife can too and we'll have an EU each :-))

You require basically no fitness, calves a bit stiff till you get used to getting on and thats about it, have you googled for anywhere on here that allows test rides with a discount for purchase?? Almsot sure someone on here will live near you for you to maybe have a go, i would be very very dubious of the quality of a 250 quid wheel, probably end up injuring yourself from random cutouts etc.

Hey mate. First of all, you want to buy a decent wheel from the get go. Don't waste money on a crap wheel that before long will either break or you will outgrow. Make the investment from the start and you'll thank yourself later.

Buy a wheel like a Ninebot or a kingsong and you have genuine distributors here in the UK that can be there for you for customer support/parts/repair. Two obvious examples are Jason (Wheelgo) and Ian (Speedyfeet).

Finally, google Project 42. They do trial experience sessions for eucs. It's down in London, so a bit of a train down from Liverpool, but the sessions are cheap and the instructors are good. You can get a feel for it and decide whether you're up for the challenge.

Or IPS... :)

What i did, was to find the safest, cheapest and most powerful that i could afford.

Read this - Brands with Unexpected Shutdowns

King Song, Ninebot, Solowheel, Gotway, Inmotion and IPS all are on the safer side. I just don't want to do a face-plant more than i have to...

Of course! ?.....in fact I'm waiting on my IPS Lhotz as I speak but I didn't mention that as I haven't taken my own advice and will have no customer support/parts/repair if anything goes wrong. I just had to have it ?

Thanks for all the very quick replies....

Although I could run to one Ninebot, I couldn't afford two (one for the wife) so I will need to source a wheel (s) for less and take my chances...perhaps I may lash out if I (we) can learn to ride.....

I will read as much as I can and check out all the you tube vids...I will keep the forum informed before making a decision to buy...

thanks again  Gerry

I wish we had something like that in the States

This is what I think I would go for in the UK.

either that or a Ninebot one e+. If you want support ninebot is probably the best. With the others you may be out on your own a bit

You don't need to go fast, but having a powerful motor helps stay upright.

If you are going to stay on smooth surfaces maybe a 14" wheel will be fine, maybe some of these are better priced

KIngsong, Gotway, Ninebot and IPS are preferred makes.

I wouldn't say this is a cheap hobby initially,  but once you have the stuff running costs are cheap.

Hi OP.

In your language, let me translate this for you.
You came in to a  pub full of drivers (cars) and said, I've been wondering about learning to drive. I don't want to spend too much on it - but I can get a B reg escort off ebay, do you think this is a good idea?
A B reg escort is going to break down, and even when it does go, it won't be comfortable - the power delivery won't be smooth, and in the end, you'll either give up completely, or go to the Ford dealership and get a New Fiesta - which you can rely on, it will be smooth and you'll wonder why you wasted your money.

I speak from experience - I have a £250 EUC in my garage, it's thrown me off for the last time! Lol, I now have a nice collection of Ninebots (it's addictive)
I don't know what to do with the old rubbish one, I can't really sell it & it's too god to take to the tip.

Edit. that serves me right for not reading the whole post to the end.... or reading the dates on the posts.
Ahh well, I like the analogy so i'll leave this post here.
