Popular Post OliG
Hello friends, Today, we will talk about the famous fast and silent charger from Roger Hajali, one of the West Coast's most talented wheelers ;). Note that I'm not selling this charger. This is not an evangelism aimed at encouraging compulsive buying. Just my feedbacks after few charges with this charger. This is my first detailed feedbacks after 2 weeks of use. If I find something interesting I will do an update later. There are several version of Roger’s charger (see below for the full list). My choice is the SC (121-168V) version as I have a S22 and a Patton currently (and Lynx is on the potential wishlist). The SC charger is neat and tidy. It's not much heavier than the original S22 charger (1902 g vs. 1326 g with all cables) and it's more compact (you can remove all the wiring to store it easily in your backpack). I’ve included comparative photos with the original Patton/S22 charges. The charge monitoring screen is super clean, easy to read and now in color (the one on Marty’s video was a first black and white version). The little knobs next to the screen are super easy to use to adjust both voltage and amperage. Shipping was super fast (ordered on 29/12/2023 and received on 03/01/2024) via Fedex. Payment to Roger was made via Paypal "between friends". Roger took the time to calibrate the charger properly to the main voltage I'm using at the moment, i.e. 126 volts and checked it with a voltmeter before sending it, with video. Incredible service :). The ordering experience was up to scratch, which is already a good point. For my use case, one of the advantages of the charger (confirmed after my first tests ) is that it is, at equivalent amperage, quieter than the original charger (see Marty's video https://youtu.be/iFah2BlqQsY?si=VrJxifXwm_hEOepx). With this charger you can’t say anymore « I’ll never be able to go to a restaurant and charge my wheel with a fast charger that makes a noise like an Airbus ». The charger has variable amperage (1 of its interests for me): Roger had set it to 10A, but the first thing I did was default it to 5A, like my 2 original chargers. Precisely because I didn't buy it "solely/primarily" for "fast" charging. With my "very (too) cool" driving style to say the least, I did my last roadtrip on the Patton with the original charger, charging every lunchtime at 5Amps and arriving safely every evening at the hotel. So I know my needs, which are very different from those who only do extremely fast charges at 10-14 amps for example. In that case the V4 charger is probably a better choice for you. The charger has an on-board screen that makes it much easier to adjust than with some other versions, both in terms of amperage and voltage. The screen also keeps track of key charging metrics (voltage and average set for your charge, wh injected, charging time, current wheel voltage). For me, this is the second advantage of this type of charger. The SC charger I’ve selected is compatible with 126V (my 2 wheels), 134V, 151.2V (Lynx) and 168V (next Begode/Extreme Bull) wheels. This means I won't have to buy a new "fast" charger in the next few months if I change one of my wheels. It also allows me, on roadtrips or long daily rides, to help out a buddy whose charger has failed (provided it's within the range of voltages available, of course). These are the main features that makes this charger interesting for me. It'll probably be different for everyone, depending on your use case. As already said, there are also other alternatives in Roger’s charger list in this case. SC charger power, voltage and current range It’s a 2000 Watts charger. Voltage range on my version is 121V to 168V. There is another version with range going from 100V to 134V. Recommended max current is 12 Amps for 126V wheel and 10 Amps for 151,2V wheels. Charger size & weight Size: L 21,2 cm x l 11,6 cm x h 4,4 cm Weight: 1900g with all the cables; 1570 g without cables For comparaison : S22/Patton charger with cables weight is 1330g Case to protect the SC charger If found this nice case to protect the charger: https://amzn.eu/d/i5fnbGp. The size is 25 cm x 16cm x 6,5cm. It’s a little too small to put the electric eu plug head inside (see pictures). There are also 3D print bumpers available to protect the charger corners, to prevent the cooling fins from bending. You can find the link to the 3D files in Roger’s Telegram group (see link below). End of charge and cells balancing During charging process, the top bar on charger screen indicates : « charging ». When the charging process is almost over the top bar on charger screen switch between « charging » and « carrying idler » with current switching from 0,3Amp and 0 Amp. After approximately 30 minutes (for my first test) the charger stops, current stays at 0A and the top bar on charger screen indicates « carrying idler ». App for the Charger and bluetooth feature You have access to the charger information and setup via Bluetooth connection from your phone. It works with iPhone and Android phones . For Android phones there is a specific app to install: https://niub.cc/index/article/detail/id/2.html. I tried to use it on my LEMFO LEMT (Android big watch that I use for Eucworld) to install the bluetooth app but it doesn’t work on this specific device. There is no specific app on iPhone. You need to install Alipay on your iPhone first and than ask Roger the link for the mini app after that.I didn’t tested yet that option. When starting Alipay app on iPhone, I was requested to register and put my id card or passport number during the process. As I didn’t have the paper with me, I was not able to register. Additionally I’m not sure I want to share all my personal information with Alipay just to use a bluetooth feature on a charger. How to pay For the payment: I used PayPal, with « payment between friends » option to avoid additional fees Other payment options are available, just ask to Roger. Versions of Roger’s chargers (list on 14/01/2024) V3 $280 (140V) V4 $310 (152V) SC $350 (136V) SC $350 (121-168V) $15 shipping Roger EV Adaptor $60 : $10 shipping Roger EX30 one pair full ring tire spacers $60 : $10 shipping Some questions I had before ordering Did you tried the SC with the S22? I would like to be sure there is no incompatibility between “smart” features on both side. => I can confirm the charger works perfectly with the S22 and the Patton. Which charge connectors are included in the standard package? => with my version, I have 126V, 134V and 151,2V connectors (all included on the same cable - see pictures- very convenient) Do you provide EU plug cable? ==> answer was, no. So I used the European plug cable from my original S22 charger. Which screen is included in the final version of the SC (I saw 3 versions end of December 2023: black and white - see Marty’s video, colored screen with 3 little buttons to setup voltage and Amps, touch screen colored screen - not selected for the final version)? ==> Colored screen version with 3 little buttons to setup voltage and Amp How does it work to reset the sum of wh injected and total time of charge ? Long press on middle button ? ==> It is per boot up For more information Join Roger's Fast Charger Telegram group for more information about this charger and how to get one: https://t.me/+KVzCwlaU6g83Y2Vh Edited January 25 by OliG Weight corrected in details 5 3

I've been interested in this charger (and its siblings*), while it is expensive, so are a bunch of other 10A chargers. The part where you need to create an account with Alipay to connect to it is utterly unacceptable to me though. Glad to know now rather than discovering it at reception. Really too bad as otherwise it seems very nice. (* is it a Huawei base like Hou Ningning uses?) Thanks. Honestly the account on Alipay on iPhone is a detail. I was informed by Roger before ordering on how to use the BT feature, based on my questions for the review. So it was not a surprise not really disappointing As discussed with Marty, you absolutely don’t need Bluetooth app to use or configure your charger. It could be nice probably to access other parameters but honestly it will probably be something I do once to test then never after. For the question regarding Huawei base I don’t know. You should ask to @roghaj or in Roger’s group on Telegram. Edited January 14 by OliG

Because Huawei is so in bed with the Chinese government* that when the daughter of the founder was under house arrest in Canada with the worlds best lawyers on charges of HW meddling with Iran, China arrested two random Canadian and detained them in bad conditions and with no access to legal representation till "the princess of Huawei" was freed. I'm not some sort of perfect ethical shopper, but there are limits to the evil I will support. *Which is also why they, in particular, are held out of western infrastructure as much as possible. UniVehje
I wonder if something in similar size and features is available from better manufacturer? It’s going to be Chinese almost certainly. But I agree Huawei is better avoided. It needs Bluetooth connection also.

You can perfectly use it without using this feature. But maybe I don’t understand your comment. Note: And if you want to use this BT feature, on Android it’s an app, no need to create an account as on iOS. OliG
For those who would like a "sound" illustration of the difference in noise between an original charger and the Roger'SC, here is an excellent video by @Marty Backe in which there can be no doubt on this topic! Frolic0415
Is this another drop shipped charger? OG Roger Chargers were just rebranded Delta Chargers directly from China

OG Roger Chargers were just rebranded Delta Chargers directly from China I'm not sure what the point of the question is? The charger or its components are certainly made in China. In any case, mine went on to California at least to pre-tune it, test it for correct operation and add a mythical autograph from @roghaj😁. If the question is whether the charger works and meets my expectations, the answer is yes. I've been using it for all my charging since the beginning of January, and at 5A it's silent when charging my S22 or Patton. The screen allows me to retrieve the stats I need of my various recharges. What more could I ask for 😉?

Nothing wrong with selling for any price he wants. I think it's a given that this charger is not made in USA and designed by him. But he seems to have sourced the suitable charger and modified cables for it etc. I don't know how much he has done to be suitable for our usage. I think the value added comes from making it available and without extra modifications. Not every EUC rider is capable or finding the correct charger directly from China and then solder a suitable cable with correct plug and right pins. I've wrecked one board by finding a seemingly suitable charger with right plug but the pins were in wrong order. 1
UniVehje
1 hour ago, null said: edit: BTW @UniVehje I have sadly not see any other brands making PSUs this compact.. Hopefully with time there will be others, maybe using Gan. Yes, they Hou's chargers are also Huawei. Hopefully Gan chargers will come available soon. Speaking of compact, one of Hou's charger seems to be lighter. Stock charger is very light also although quite large. For me this kind of fast charger is for taking on long journeys and weight matters more than volume. But the light version is not suitable for Lynx. I hope there's a small and light fast charger available some day. Roger's smart charger suitable for Lynx is very nice but pretty heavy also. 1
Frolic0415
2 hours ago, null said: No, he did not, he sourced a power supply which he modded to get the current regulation we want from a charger (CC/CV phases). To be able to set the voltage and monitor charge easily he added a controller with a display. He also added better cooling and made wiring for our EUCs. It went from being just a PSU to being a handy charger fit for our use. I bought a Delta charger and it was identical to the Roger Charger, down to the display and voltage adjustment. 2 hours ago, null said: I really don't see the point in your deprecating tone. You didn't even read the thread or you would have known he didn't use a Delta PSU. I never asked if he used Delta again.

I'm certainly not here to ruffle feathers by saying either is right or wrong but when GodMod sold the community what was deemed a vastly overpriced item everyone slated them. There have been others which were also outed by the community quite sharpish. I fully appreciate that not everyone can make up a £10 charger cable or work a simple 4/5 pin wiring diagram though so there is that. As always it's up to the buyer to do with their cash as they choose.

Hello, I've paid 439,2$ shipping and Paypal fx fees included (custom fees and taxes excluded). I had to pay custom fees and taxes. I don't remember exactly the amount but it will vary depending on the country and the price of your order, so it's better to check locally what are the rules/values for your country. I ordered it in december 2023, so the best is to check on Roger's Telegram group if you want to know the exact price for the last version of his chargers. There are several versions and Roger is regularly improving his chargers, so my advice is to check with @roghaj the best option for your specific needs.
