Gotway MSX breakdown. Can't turn off(?), doesn't maintain balance.

Hi, I need help with figuring out the problems and possible ways to fix it.

My almost new Gotway MSX broke out of a sudden just in the middle of the ride. Just stopped maintaining balance, I was lucky to be slowing down so just jumped off without any issues.

It doesn't maintain balance and doesn't seem to react to on/off button.

I tried rebooting it by disconnecting all the plugs from the battery but it didn't help. At some point I was able to control the light but that's it. Also the light blinking seemed a bit buggy, like intervals are not normal. Not 100% sure though.

Also there is some resistance when I try to rotate the wheel by hand. As I remember it didn't use to have any resistance in switched off state.

I attach the photo and video to illustrate the resistance. The sound is just it scratching the floor, not the engine or something. The motherboard/plastic cover doesn't have any visible damage.

I also tried disconnecting all the motherboard plugs. If I disconnect the power cables that go to the wheel, it starts rotating freely. Disconnecting other stuff doesn't make any difference. After I connected everything  back including MB powerback - it was just blinking the light and resisting the rotation as before. Blinking in a weird way.

So something between the motor wire connector and the motherboard is short circuiting the motor.

Either fried mosfets or molten motor wires?

How do I check that it's a mosfet? Just check with multimeter if it always conducts?

Be careful - the two big capacitors hold the full battery voltage!

Normally one discharges them by turning on the wheel without batteries - no idea if this will still work with your maybe broken motherboard. Best to measure directly at their legs if there is voltage left.

Beside the chance of electrocuting your meter could not like it to get 100V while trying to measure a resistance...

One (mostly) should see visual signs on mosfets beeing fried - just some are hidden below the aluminium plate/heatsink.

Sometimes visual signs of fried mosfets can be seen on the pcb.

It,s enough to measure between the three motor wires - there should be no short.

And/or the mosfets for permanent short.

Sounds very much like a bad board (that was always close to dieing) that died.

A blown (as in exploded a bit) mosfet should be easy to see (and smell). Post some photos if you want, but such damage is usually obvious.

As you say your MSX is almost new, contact your seller right away. Classic "send me a new board on warranty" case if you ask me.

i assume that you can locate mosfets, you dont need to unscrew mosfets to measure, there cannot be any short cut between 3 mosfet legs.

Of course measure all of 12 mosfets.

Good test!

I agree, bad board, must replace.
