Lefteris
I've checked our domain without the forum sub by using www or without www in front and i get the default dreamhost empty page as shown in the attachment. Why not adding one small information page that then tells the visitor to hit a button to go to the forums, maybe the purpose of this website et'all
Esper
There was a landing page for quite a while. It had links to many places. The forum, the reddit page, the facebook group, etc. I don't know when it stopped working, but now when I type in the url electricunicycle.org I get redirected to this forum automatically. Lefteris
Yeah this happens because the subdomain points to a different place that dreamhost has this forum hosted as a deployed script, not a self-hosted one, it's managed by them and all settings and stuff are managed by the owners of this site. "Managed" The www or simple .org need to point to a plain hosting plan on shared or dedicated server, that then can host these static files. I can suggest something if the owners like.. There is a place, a hosting company in Greece, that gives 500 MB storage & 1 GB bandwidth for free, i'm using it for static pages for friends for years now, or maybe even point the www cname record on one of my own hosting if you like, i've got like tons of baud based on fusioned.net premium package. Either-way if you guys (owners) don't have time to make something, let us (power users) help you a bit
meepmeepmayer
Both electricunicycle.org and www.electricunicycle.org bring me to the forum start page at forum.electricunicycle.org. No problem here.
Lefteris
when i visithttps://www.electricunicycle.org/ it brings me to the error page above.
meepmeepmayer
It's the https, then I get the error too. Literally just entering "electricunicycle.org" or "www.electricunicycle.org" works. Entering "https://" in front does throw the error. 1

Entering "https://" in front does throw the error. This is a marginal "issue" then. I don't know anyone who types in https before a domain name (although maybe the "https everywhere" addon that some people use in their browsers could cause that issue)
Lefteris
i don't type https, it's the addon cause i want to browse "only" https sites and not load plain http iframes or such! Some apache or other "re-writes" are needed here instead of the plain forwarding, for the https part!
Esper
Unless this is a problem that many people are having I don't see a reason to try and create a fix. No one I know blindly types in urls into the address bar. Most people looking for a website will type the terms/words into a search engine (ex; Google) and then click on the top links to direct to the correct website. With all the content here on this forum, I'd be honestly surprised if a different site was linked for a different forum (shops excluded, such as ewheels). I don't see how there could be any harm if you want to make a splash page that has a direct link to this forum. You can try it if you want and place a visitor counter to view web traffic. The previous splash page was probably removed because it didn't get a lot of traffic.
Lefteris
They had a small wordpress site at first that had a simple home screen and link to the forums, it didn't work back in the day, at least try fixing the redirects cause many people like me just type "e" in their keyboards to visit the site after the browser suggest one of the most visited ones.
