For no specific reason I investigated the number of posts per month under the different brand names over about the last three month of 2016 (2016/09/05-2016/12/24) and about the first three months in 2017 (2016/12/24-2017/04/11), all of them but Rockwheel went down during this time.

Gotway:   699, 359 (51%)
Kingsong: 314, 198 (63%)
Inmotion: 227, 182 (80%)
Ninebot:  157, 134 (85%)
IPS:       56,  38 (68%)
Solowheel:  7,   2 (29%)

Rockwheel:  7,  27(386%)
any other: <7,  <9

Cool investigation.

My guess: people posted more in General and Mod/Repair than manufacturer forums. For example, my ACM breaking thread should rightfully be in GW forum, but I put it in General for visibility (will eventually ask to move to GW when it's finished with the final update) and it would bring the Gotway # of posts up (to a more or less constant level). For the other manufacturers, differences are so small, not sure it makes sense to read a trend into there. Except Kingsong... maybe because relatively little happened in KS-Land (new wheel, KS16S, no defects or anything else) and people looked at other manufacturers more? Or something I missed.

No doubt that there are by far more posts in the General Discussion topic than in the brand topics. At the moment I don't have the numbers for topics General Discussion or Mod/Repairs, but it seems difficult to explain why the posting strategy of members into the brand topics vs into the general discussion topic should have changed.

The individual trends gain significance, because it is the same trend for all brands with frequent posts. It could well be related to a within-year cycle than to a general trend, though I am doubtful that this is the case.

The numbers above are averages per month taken over three months. So even moving this large thread (indeed one of the largest threads for a long time) with 374 posts wouldn't change the picture dramatically: Gotway would have 67% instead of 51%.

Uh ok I misread it. Maybe the old people are dieing and the young ones are all on Facebook?;)

That's entirely possible.

I haven't been here long enough to know much about "the old times" (a few months ago). Another idea, less new wheels coming out/being available to the masses, so less manufacturer specific discussions?

Looks like it might help if you can get the overal user/post number development.

Yeah, didn't visit at much during the winter.  Took my wheel out for the first time last week, rode to work 3 times and it was a blast (about 100km total, including a ride at lunch one day).

Update:
Posts per month in the brand topics of this forum for three time periods between 2016/09/05 and 2017/08/07.

AirW   FW   GW   IM  IPS   KS   NB  RoW   SW UniW
   6    1  712  231   57  319  159    7    8    3 (2016/09/05-2016/12/24)
   8    0  349  177   37  192  130   27    2    9 (2016/12/24-2017/04/11)
  11   16 1164  336   82  377  161  151   19    1 (2017/04/11-2017/08/07)

The numbers deviate slightly from the first post due to a lazy and hence slightly inaccurate normalisation to get posts per month.

Same numbers in % column-wise to better investigate the change for each brand (last row is 100% but for Uniwheel):
AirW   FW   GW   IM  IPS   KS   NB  RoW   SW UniW
  54    5   61   69   70   85   99    5   40   35 (2016/09/05-2016/12/24)
  66    2   30   53   45   51   81   18   12  100 (2016/12/24-2017/04/11)
 100  100  100  100  100  100  100  100  100   12 (2017/04/11-2017/08/07)

April 2017 to now has been the most active period for pretty much all brands. This may well be explained due to season. Most remarkable are the increased traffic for Rockwheel and the (comparably) flat traffic for Ninebot. The increase for Firewheel and Solowheel are based on a very small number of posts only.

Same numbers in % row-wise to better compare the different brands (Gotway is 100% always)
AirW   FW   GW   IM  IPS   KS   NB  RoW   SW UniW
   1    0  100   32    8   45   22    1    1    0 (2016/09/05-2016/12/24)
   2    0  100   51   11   55   37    8    1    2 (2016/12/24-2017/04/11)
   1    1  100   29    7   32   14   13    2    0 (2017/04/11-2017/08/07)

Another update, posts per month in the brand topics of this forum for four time periods between 2016/09/05 and 2018/01/01. Only KingSong and Ninebot had lately an increase in posts, where for Ninebot the single Z6-Z8-Z10 thread with 510 posts accounts for almost half of all posts (107 posts per month alone) and all of the increase:

AirW FW GW IM IPS KS NB RoW SW UniW sum General
   6 1 712 231 57 319 159 7 8 3 1503 (2016/09/05-2016/12/24)
   8 0 349 177 37 192 130 27 2 9 930 (2016/12/24-2017/04/11)
  11 16 1164 336 82 377 161 151 19 1 2316 1956 (2017/04/11-2017/08/07)
   0 2 808 163 29 464 218 84 25 13 1806 2156 (2017/08/07-2018/01/01)
