Did you use any shin pads / calf compression sleeves while learning?

I don't have a Ninebot, but if you add a thick enough layer over the top paddings (which don't interfere with the pedals), you probably won't touch the wheel with your ankle area anymore. This would be anyway the better strategy, as IMHO the ankles shouldn't touch the wheel anyways, whether in a padded or unpadded area.

STX shin guards are really helpful with EUC and Ninebot.

Simpler soccer shin guards did it for me, like these

STX are like a spandex tube with foam padding in the front side. You pull them on like knee high sox. They act like support sox too.

They won't help you with ankle pain from bot-ankle contact.

You might want to try Dr. Scholl's shoe inserts (heel pain orthotic ) if your feet need some additional support.

I have old legs and feet but I find myself not using the STX anymore for rides less than a full charge away and back (10-15 miles).

As you get better as a rider you might try to reposition your feet on the pedal while riding by pivoting your foot slightly from either the toes or heel while supporting more of your weight with leg to bot pressure on the opposite side. Wiggle your toes , lift your heel, get the blood flowing again before stopping for a longer rest.

Mono's shin guard price is hard to beat.

@Mono what wheel(s) do have?

Gotway MCM2s, IPS 132, and InMotion V8. I can't ride any of them comfortably without added padding.

Riding straight is no problem, but to mount (using the triangle technique) and do other manoeuvres pain free requires added padding. I guess that I am just unusually hypersensitive to pressure applied to the skin/bone.
