alex93rm
Hi everyone. Well, I have an 84v Gotway Nikola with more than 7000 km. It is the model with the board on the top (yes, one of those that used to fail and cut off). Due to the kilometers it has, I would like to replace the board with a newer and more current one (the new black ones that Begode is implementing). The problem is that my Nikola is an old model and top boards are no longer manufactured like the one it comes from the factory. So I thought maybe I could use an 84v gotway MSX black board and put it on the side (just like the new nikola plus) as this is also an 84v 1600Wh wheel). Do you think this is possible and will work fine? Thanks in advance for your help 1
EMA
problem is that motors are different , probably it will not work but if you have the chance try it do you have issue with your board ? if not there's no need to be worried about it
Wolverine
Hi @alex93rmand welcome to the euc forum! Unfortunately, this plan does not work due to different products do have different electric motors. Additionally, your unicycle is quite old, therefore the new circuit board will not work. In the world of unicycles, it is often seen that the same model (for example Inmotion V12, Gotway models etc.) has HT and HS variants. They also have different motors and different circuit boards. This is where the world has gone and we, as buyers, have more freedom of choice. Choosing the correct board is more critical these days. HT- high torque, HS- high speed. Arbolest
While the motors are technically the same type (C30) and will "work" with the new board, I can guarantee that you will run into some problems because of the different sized rims. The firmware on the MSX board is not going to be optimized for the size of the Nikola rim, so you could end up with some... unexpected... behavior. This could manifest in the form of something as tame and simple as a reduction in your maximum speed (the board judges speed based on RPMs, not honest-to-goodness distance-traveled-over-time), all the way up to something jarring and potentially dangerous such as the board's PID algorithm causing it to overreact to slight movements (leading to the wheel getting locked into a shudder-loop and eventually frying the board). However, since the black boards can change their firmware via a Bluetooth tool, you could always see if the appropriate firmware is available and load it onto the MSX board, effectively turning it into a Nikola board... Just a thought...
Popular Post meepmeepmayer
The firmware needs to match the wheel. Even having the board horizontal or vertical (for the exact same wheel model) requires different firmwares. So this won't work. The good news is: you don't need to replace the board. It has worked so far and there is no reason to believe it will stop working. Boards don't really age. Either they die right away/very soon due to some hardware weakness, or they tend to live longer than you will want to ride the wheel. The 84V Nikola board has never had any problems except the first batch with the hot glue disaster, which was a clearly delineated issue that was fixed. If you don't have one of these boards (after 7000 successful km it does not look like it), you are good. 2
