JMartin
Hi, Anyone figured out how to better keep the pedals up when moving the wheel around? The original magnets are weak. Thanks, Jay
EUC Custom Power-Pads
Open the shell and change the magnets against stronger ones.
Denny Paul
these are the same diameter (20mm) as the magnets gotway (and veteran) use. Just 1/2 the thickness. https://www.amazon.com/REALTH-Neodymium-Permanent-Magnetic-MC20212/dp/B08GLGFYW7/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=20mm+neodymium+magnets&qid=1640480000&sr=8-3 on a flat shell you can just let the magnets do the work and put one on the outside to increase the strength holding the pedals up. No tools or diy necessary cause magnets. But since the mcm5 is not flat on the sides, I used a hot glue gut and stuck em on where the magnets naturally attract to. Use a generous amount of hot glue. And whenever youre ready to sell the wheel it should be easy to remove the relatively weak glue. JMartin
I used the magnets @Denny Paul recommended above, but ended up mounting them differently. From what I can tell, the pedals on my MCM5v2 are plastic. What holds them up must be a spring inside the hinge. I put one magnet on the pedal down by the hinge and the other on the case. Nicely out of the way and so far so good. Can't figure out how to post this as a pic; but here is a link at least. https://www.dropbox.com/s/womzoznl16orphx/EUC Pedal Magnets.jpg?dl=0 Jay Edited January 5, 2022 by JMartin
JMartin
The hot glue failed over time. I have since tried Gorilla Gel to no avail. May go to a poly glue out of a caulking gun next.
techyiam
Hot glue usually bonds better if the surfaces to be bonded are heated up first with a hair dryer or heat gun. Gorilla Gel basically super glue. I believe for this application, epoxy should fair better. Roughen up the bounding surfaces first may help. litewave
The stock double stick tape that comes with these magnets works fine for me. After two months they are still fastened very securely, and the pedals stay up. No muss, no fuss, and removable. Just clean the surface with alcohol before application.
