Popular Post Planemo
Early days yet, but I've started the thread to head up just a couple of things I've done so far, aside from the essentials which are: 1. Go round checking all screws/bolts, especially the pedal grub screws (mine were finger tight!) 2. Grease the pedal spindles (mine were bone dry). 3. Check the caps in your charger. If like mine you have the 150uF ones you might want to consider swopping them out for 220uF, especially if using 240v input. 4. Maybe not essential, but I put some wrap over the wires between the batts on the side where the motor wires are. The batt wires are silicone sheathed which is easily damaged. They were laying over some plastic on the shell, over time it might have caused a problem due to vibration. 5. Very carefully check your rim for cracks! Thanks to @fbhb for this one. Mine shows no problems. So onto a couple of things so far, I really didnt like the baboon ass, superman rear light, I had some 'fly-eye' film left over from an old job so did the lens. I also did the front whilst I was at it. Looks a lot more stealthy now. Next up a seat. Some of the ones on the market are quite expensive and although I like the look of the stock one, it seems to place you too far back. So I ordered up some leatherette vinyl (£8 for a big 137cm x 50cm) sheet and some Maclow pipe clips (£5 for 6). I already had some carpet spray adhesive in the shed too. Then some kneeling mats from Poundland (£2 each) and some plywood I already had in the shed. I only had 12mm (18mm is better) so I screwed a secondary strip underneath. I went with 2 layers of kneeling mat (each mat is big enough for 1 layer) and knocked it up. Most of the designs seem to narrow in the middle which seems odd to me. So I went wide from the back to about 3 quarters up. I will see how this goes, I may well make more until I find something I really like, its no big deal. So for the grand sum of £17 I knocked this up, and have plenty of vinyl left. This one is 14cm wide at the widest section, still narrow enough not to interfere with my legs: It isnt finished yet, the underneath has been hashed up just so I can try it out. I need to add the pipe clips then staple gun it properly and cover the central section if its ok: And the fly-eye front and rear, which looks much more like a solid tint at a distance: So I will update later re the seat (I havent tried it properly yet) and anything else which comes up (I'm sure it will lol).
fbhb
@Planemo thanks for the mention about the need for the rim check in your topic. Great to see that you're already personalizing your Sherman, but I knew you would from what you have done with your wheels in the past! Another safety check/important mod to look out for is relating to the side panels/BMS issue. Your wheel may or may not have the inside of the side panels updated by the Veteran factory, so it's important to check if you have not done so already. I'll link you to a post explaining what's required if you need to do the mod yourself: Edited May 22, 2021 by fbhb
Planemo
Ah! Yes you're right, I had seen your panel thread and did check mine when I removed them just to have a look around inside (and add the cable wrap on the batt link wires). My panels did not have the ribs. As it happens, I noticed that they had not been removed manually, they had actually been moulded without them. I could just about see the witness marks where the mould had been modified
Daley1
Just started modding my Sherman with some XL Sai pads,Chris Chaput spiked pedal and some Jadsinka protectors.Whilst spraying the new parts red i decided to do a little maintenanance. Dremeled out the shell, and tightened everything up again. The pedal grub screws were so loose. The screws under the pedal hangers that hold the frame together are wood selftappers .One "fell out" and was lost to never be seen again.Dodgy Qc.The pedal hangar screws were tight on one side but forgot to do the other after putting the case on.The interior was amazingly clean and free of any dust /dirt/crap!Any way another coat of paint for the bits and time to reseat that bitch of a tyre again as its riding like its been Fxxxxd by a mountain goat in the rut!. Havent got a proper seat yet but am hopin some more technically minded will produce one for the non-height challenged!

If you find one, let a guy know. I'm 6'4 and finding it tough to find a solution. The clark version of the luna seat looks promising. Which have you dimissed? Daley1
Love the Chris Chaput spiked pedals! U shouldnt be riding a Sherman without them! They bring a new sense of grip and security to high speed riding. Do urself a favour and GET some!
