18XL How to clean mud from inner shell?

I live on a farm and made the poor decision of riding in the rain through some dirt and now the whole inner shell is caked with mud and it scrapes and grinds the wheel. It is a high mileage wheel I just got used so I am hesitant to soak up into the shell area in case it isn't fully sealed.

Any tips?

A jet of water at pressure will remove the mud from the inner shell. Then make a knot with a thin cloth around the tire and rotate slowly the wheel, so all the dust and mud will be removed.

Personally, I'd keep everything dry if possible, less of a mess (wet mud will just distribute instead of fall out) and no water intrusion danger.

I agree with you, if you are able rotate the tire. In my case, it was completely blocked and did not move at all. It was a nightmare, and then I had to use water or fully open the wheel.

I had a handheld water pump and an air compressor I used with some success but that cloth trick looks wonderful. Thanks for all the tips!

Make a cable tie loosely around the tire and let it spin out. Works well.
