Tesla, what's a realistic lifespan?

I do see how the tesla is a successor to the acm, and is definitely the same catagory. Riding it feels very similar. But that's where the similarities end. The shell makes handling different and the battery pack makes the kinds of trips you take different. That's what i would say.

While batteries - like all the other parts as well - should last a very long time on EUCs, my wheels have required mostly battery repairs once they get a year or more of (very) active usage. I have of course tried to handle them with the best of my knowledge, but for some reason they still seem to die a bit young.

Regarding the expected lifetime of a Tesla though, unless you crash the shell badly enough, I believe @meepmeepmayer is correct in that wanting to buy a new wheel is the most probable reason for shelving the Tesla.

A bit off-topic, but I'm curious what battery repairs you've had to do on your MSX specifically. I've had mine for only about a month but I ride it about 25km daily (to and from work, various errands).

None yet on the MSX (8000+ km, 1.5 years). Unless having to extend the capacity counts... :D

My 16S (2.5 years) has required repairs on both packs (@ 5k and 8k km), and the A3 required a completely new battery at ~3000 km / 3 years.
