Popular Post Cerbera
Not many of us take the time to post about normal, regular rides, where nothing goes wrong, but I arrived back from today's wheelings so elated and filled with joy at the preceding ride that I feel compelled to share the positive experience... Hard to say exactly what made today's little 5 miler so especially rewarding - it was a bit cold, there was a little too much wind for my liking, the clouds weren't doing anything particularly Contstable-esque, but the setting sun was imparting a special quality of light (in much the same way that I imagine the twin suns of Tatooine might do in Star Wars), and there was hardly anyone about, so I had a bit more freedom through town and on quieter roads on which to carve about and some bits where it was safe to try a little bit faster... There were some cars in car parks doing some massively unpredictable things, so a nice test of reaction times and defensive manoeuvres in places, and generally excellent and lovely reactions from everyone I met along the way. One interesting moment where I was zooming along a back road, and spotted a parked police car some way ahead, so quickly dropped speed to walking pace and hopped onto pavement (would rather be done for that than road riding without insurance etc), which may not have been the wisest move, as I shortly met 2 female police officers emerging from a drive, and walking up the pavement toward me ! Uh oh... But no, they saw me coming, politely moved out of my way, I gave them a friendly little wave and a smile, which they returned, and we all went on our merry ways without further worry, much to my surprise. Very much a relief and pleasure to see those guys not over-reacting and getting all 'enforcy' about it ! Later, there were some groups of kids on scooters who were almost beside themselves with excitement as I wheeled past - I don't usually get whooping, but there was loads of it today ! Flawless behaviour from the Master again, and I swear since putting that CST and new tube back on it is suddenly more stable and planted than it has ever been, and I am now back to riding whilst holding zero tension anywhere because I feel so solidly connected and stable on that tyre. My stock suspension (replaced a couple of months back) is doing a (relatively) lovely job on roads and I appear to have found one that doesn't leak air at last, so it's lovely never having to pump that up ! That tyre did some really impressive stuff today, holding its own even on tight corners on squishy mud bits, and maintaining stability even on the steepest cambers with really very little weight shift required. Lovely stuff. A horrible camera spectacularly fails to capture the quality of light, earlier. Went round the lake briefly on the way home, so all very picturesque there too, and an unusually Karen-free zone for a change ! So, all in all, a rather short ride as dark set in, but full of lovely moments that conspired to make it a very wheel-affirming and life-affirming experience. My caption is indeed a nod to the frustration I feel at not having a proper camera with me. Unfortunately, if you want your photos added to the EUCW tour you can't use the native camera app, which supports click to set ISO (or focus), zoom, aspect ratio, color balance or anything else - we literally have an extension to the app that pretty much features the take photo button, an HDR button that doesn't appear to do anything, and that's your lot ! If I tap about the phone screen here the exposure does change briefly, but never sticks there - it always returns to what it was doing before I can get to the go button - so I have always presumed that functionality is broken ! So in addition to the rubbish lens on an A13 we are further hampered by not being able to access its advanced settings in the app. But we have to use that because you can't add photos taken with an external source to tours later (AFAIK). I've already got a thread somewhere expressing the hope we get access to full camera controls within EUCW.
