AVG has become malware itself

I've never been a fan of third-party AV software. I just use Microsoft Defender and Windows Security Essentials combined with an ad blocker. Recently I switched from AdBlock Plus to uBlock Origin which seems faster, at least on Chrome.

After using it for over a decade I can't believe AVG has become malware itself.  Uninstalled AVG from all PCs and replaced with Avast (free).

Hmm. I think I installed it on my mothers PC. What has changed?

Nothing has really changed recently, which is the problem. Third-party AV programs try to do more than they should in order to pad feature lists and justify their cost, which exposes a large attack surface and actually makes it easier for malware to hurt your computer.

Windows 10 is practically malware by itself now as well.

If you mean that it sends back various data to support Cortana or search, that's pretty much like Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I actually like many of those features, the Google Location History has helped me out several times when I had visited restaurants and couldn't remember the names/addresses months later. You can disable most of the tracking in Windows 10, unlike the data Google or Facebook collect, but you'll be missing some features.

So the times changes now... before you were the product when you didnt buy it, now you are the product while even paying for it... <_<

Avast isnt any better with nagscreens BTW... I run it in silent/gaming mode but it still pops up its "daily security scan" even while gaming.

Both Czech companies too.  Wonder if same ultimate owners. :P
