You can already do that with the normal hub motors, it's just none of the manufacturers develop motors for EUC with a space to install the batteries. The fastwheel supposedly has a BLDC motor similar to RC cars and uses a belt and gears to drive the wheel. As to how reliable it is or if friction and noise will an issue it's a mystery.
