  1. I've got an older k16x that I use for longer rides. bought used for a grand, its case and handle are busted but it still rides great. I've started using it to ride between my MIL's house in western MA the last stop on Metro North in wassaic NY to get to and from on the weekends when my wife and kids are staying there. It's about 45 miles. Turns out that while the 16x has plenty of juice to take me 45-50 miles down off the mountain with range to spare, riding uphill is another story. Climbing the mountain drained the battery to 0 before 40 miles. I charged it to 30% in about an hour at a cocktail stop, but it must have been a false 30% bc it wasn't enough to finish the last 6 miles of my journey. So, what's the best fast charger for pit stop charging the 16x?
  2. Absolute nonsense that "you" can't ride an mten4 comfortably. I ride mine all over nyc, easily 10-15+ miles per day. Now that I have an A2 I tend to use that for longer distances and save my mten4 for around the neighborhood, but the mten4 is totally comfortable and considerably more fun
  3. Is it confirmed that the mten mini has a hollowbore axle? I've been thinking of getting one to replace my mten4 since because I think it could meet most of my needs for a neighborhood wheel if it truly has a stronger axle than the mten4. But the 150lb weight limit has been throwing me, I'm 200.
  4. That's what I thought when I got my new motor for the mten4 after snapping the first one. I'm down to 200lbs now and have been careful not to jump any curbs and avoid anything that could weaken the axle. Hit a small divot in the asphalt at 15mph and the axle snapped like a pretzel rod. Luckily I was able to walk it off without crashing.
  5. I've broken one axle already on an mten4, won't be doing any more curbs with mine
  6. I left it outside for several hour in a thick drizzle, then tried to run it/charge it before it had fully dried out. Water got into the charging port first, I think, and caused a short that fried the motherboard and the battery bms... Once I replaced everything I did some fairly heavy duty waterproofing with RTV silicone and it's been solid since. No overheating issues either.
  7. i'm not sure what they're called, but the set screws that attach the pedals and frame to the axle have a habit of coming loose on my mten4, allowing some play that can cause tire rub. worth a check anyways.
  8. As is. I actually rode it thru Moynihan Station to the ticketing agent at the top of the stairs to the platform
  9. Ended up taking my MTen4, zero issues. Would have been fine with the 16x too, nobody cares about checking weight
  10. I need to get to Boston from NYC on Tuesday. Can I bring my 16X on Amtrak or will they give me a hard time since it's 2 or 3 lbs over the 50lb limit? Anyone done this?
  11. The MTen4 is a deeply fraught piece of equipment. With a few minor manufacturing improvements, it could be great. 1) fix the battery cable issues. Probably sorted in newer versions 2) waterproofing. As manufactured, the MTen4 will fail in the presence of mist. This is easily remedied with a tube of rtv silicone, but begode should be doing this in the factory 3) stronger axle. At 220lbs, I'm right at the weight limit, and I've already broke one axle. I won't be doing any curbs or drops on this new one It's still just about the most fun you can have on one wheel, and perfect for urban environments. I wish other manufacturers would make similar scale wheels.
  12. not normal, I'd assume the headlight assembly needs to be replaced
  13. a warning to others - even with the 3d printed battery clip installed, my brother's mten4 failed while riding on the bike path last weekend at 15 mph. he got 10 stiches in his knee. the battery clip kept the two parts of the clip (xt90?) attached, but the red battery wire was a few mm shorter than the other two battery wires and the red wire's solder connection inside the clip broke! he lost power and cut out immediately, triggering a crash. so be warned! if your battery cables are too short and there's tension on them when installed, the battery clip is not sufficient protection! the wires need to be lengthened or otherwise reinforced as well.
