Hydrophobic coat

Now that the winter is here, I bumped into a video of a hydrophobic coat that looks amazing, the liquids just slide away (check it out below, it's pretty cool). I found the item on Amazon (http://amzn.to/2ihwGpf), and according to the reviews it works but rubs off easily (which is why it has 3/5 stars). However, I was thinking that it could work for a the control board, it's enclosed and it should be rare that it gets water in there, it would be just in case. Maybe it would damage the control board though, but could be used on the USB port or the speakers.

I just wanted to share, and wonder what do you think? Anyone tried something similar?

UPDATE: I discovered Amazon has more hydrophobic products that are much cheaper: http://amzn.to/2jt92nk

Looks great in the video, but Amazon has quite a few negative reviews... mostly it seems that you have to apply a lot of coats to get the results in the video, and it is not that easy to apply the coats well.

I've read about these products in New Scientist, and I presume once they are on, they are durable.   If you actually buy a bottle, I'd be interested in your experience.  I would think about adding this on top of a sealant ... see my post at
