Recommended Insurance providers, UK?

I've just got my IPS191 and I'm really enjoying it. Yesterday I managed to mount up on it without a wall! Yay. Before that I'd be out on country roads trying to find a tree or fencepost to use. . .Luckily no one watching!

I think I'll get some insurance though, it seems like a good idea and could also help in case of a run in not only with another road user but with the law. I've had a look around and have found one or two providers who specialise in electric bikes, and bikes in general but before I go for it I thought I'd run it by you guys as I can't see a previous post on this topic.

Does anyone have any thoughts in PL Insurance in general? Any thoughts about a good provider?

Thanks!

Welcome to the eucs . Please always ride safely and try to avoid crowded places.

The euc are not recognized as a vehicle in UK yet so I don't think it is possible to get insurance but please let me know if you find a place  that would do.

Even if you do manage to get some kind of general third party insurance it won't cover you at present because when you are riding a euc you are indulging in an illegal activity unless you are on private ground.

To be honest the same goes for roller skaters and skateboarders plus any other non road legal wheeled transportation device, scooters etc.

Is there an official law in UK now to say its illegal to ride them anywhere now rather than just vehicular roads?

Regarding the insurance.  I think it will be hard to get.  Most insurers need to go by a predetermined set of parameters which you need to meet.  As currently there are no official recognized testers for EUs don't think they would know where to start.

The law that is being used is over a hundred years old and prohibits wheeled transportation devises in public pedestrian areas. I believe it was originally made to control velocipedes (early bicycles) and safeguard pedestrians from them.

So with this and the fact that they are not road legal it means that we are technically breaking the law every time we use them in public area as are kick scooter users and inline skaters etc. In practice all the police I've met whilst riding have been interested in the eucs and had no problem with them.

Lots of people ride bicycles on the pavements but I've yet to see any of them being stopped by the police so it's like many of the laws now in that it isn't rigorously enforced but can be if you are unlucky enough to meet a policeman who's in a bad mood or of course if you are being a Dick head and endangering the public.

Isn't the main loophole in that is that the EU is a single wheel device and is not recognized as a vehicle under current traffic laws.  At least thats what I explain to police here in Hong Kong.  As you probably know HK laws are based on UK laws from back when HK was owned by UK.

Edit:

Got me a little interested so I looked it up and found that early flat roads where actually made for bicycle use.  Bicycles back then where the main type of vehicle hence why a law was created to stop them from being used on pavements and walkways.  Wasn't until 30 years later did the automobile industry demand flat roads to be laid for their use also.  So if the Law that they are using is 100 years old then how people should use the roads should be 100 years old too... meaning all roads should actually be considered as cycle lanes.

But bicycles are allowed on all roads bar the relatively recently built motorway network, so in effect they all are cycle lanes, just not for the exclusive use of cycles! :)

Then you could also argue that if all roads are meant for cycles.  Then and Electric Unicycle is also a cycle and we are in-fact allowed to use all roads too. :P
