Mono
This is the first falling advice I feel comfortable to generally recommend, not only, but in particular for beginners. The short version: don't be afraid of the ground, consider the ground as your friend, don't stretch (body or legs) to get further away from the ground but get towards the ground by bending the knees all the way down (thereby reducing the height of the fall). Then land on the knees (ideally with knee pads) or roll to the side. This is consistent with the general advice to keep the knees bent and always in front of the hips. Bending the knees briskly when something goes wrong is the life saving reflex and will even prevent falling in many critical situations. Fortunately, it is also the initial reaction for a controlled fall when it cannot be prevented.
