U.S. government declares hoverboards unsafe

That is a good headline for an attention getter they used but it doesn't really paint the full story.

This is the letter being sent out to manufacturers, importers and retailers of "self-balancing scooters".

Note that there is a plethora of "could" and "may" statements throughout.  They are talking tough but it doesn't mean the borders are closed to all devices that haven't passed the new UL standards immediately.

Bad designed, no quality control, no testbook to ensure any kind of safety.

I see guy riding hooverboard with something mounted on it. Then hooverboard running in some testing machine.

There are no data present about conditions. I mean influence of weight, speed, temperature, running time..

This video looks like "Let the proove will be the video itself" .

Until more info about testing will be released.
