as a newb I messaged him too, but figured it out, dude still won't stop texting me.

Scammers everywhere. At least it wasnt a costly endeavor. I wonder how they really expect to profit off THIS particular scam? Maybe he's trying to sell a box of bricks and a can of paint?
Don't hold it against us tho. We are mostly just simply loco here, but not mean spirited.

It's a fishing scam, they try to gain your acquaintance/trust enough so you'll eventually wire them some cash.

Wow, and that works? Don't try and gain MY trust, or I'LL be asking YOU for $$. Only I prefer cash in person. I'm one of those picky friends....

The photo used showed the UK sticker, and the low price,  suggested it was a scam.

The selection of this photo with the flaw might have been deliberate.  It may be acting as a means to filter out people who would not fall for a scam.

A scammer might not want to be flooded with replies, and waste time and effort on people that won't ultimately be scammed.  Filter them out.

It could be a phone number harvesting operation.

Hi Paul, I stumbled upon your insightful message above. Interestingly, I saw yet another listing here in USA with same picture several weeks ago. That sticker was indeed the first clue. And then I wanted to find the same picture from elsewhere which would be a decisive evidence, but I was not able to. Can you teach me - and other forum members here - how to search another occurrence of the same picture from internet? Thanks.

These are all over offerup.  At any moment you can find a $900 sherman.

I almost fell for it my first month.  What's funny is the guys never replied to my messages.  I think you are right that they are sort of hoping to filter out people who would fall for a scam.
