Paul A
Good explanation by other member of cyclists not wanting to stop for red lights....because it is a waste of the energy spent in achieving that momentum, and the energy required to begin again from a complete stop. Probably same explanation for large trucks that deliberately ignore red lights and travel through intersections. Be aware and check for vehicles ignoring red lights.

They do not like it when something interferes with that plan. This actually is a good point and makes a lot of sense.

alcatraz
There are many different skill levels out there. 15 feet might seem like a risk to someone unskilled. Why not use a bell instead though? Some find it hard to brake, or refuse to brake hard because they're afraid, and so they seek these crazy margins that they're never going to find. I'd be surprised if they still ride the next year. I can't be annoyed over their cautiousness. Better safe than sorry. With experience you can shrink your safety margins a bit, but you can't expect others to do so.
