Popular Post .....
I was riding my favorite 18L the other day. This was my first wheel and we have formed a bond now. I changed shoes as my old one's were being shoe goo'd, and man was it odd. After fighting the new shoes for many miles, I just couldnt seem to find the same comfort at speed as my older shoes. I dismissed it as just me needing to get used to the new sneakers, but it wasnt getting any better. About mid ride one day, I decided to FINALLY give the 'tilt' feature in eucw a try. Up to this point, the new shoes(so i thought) were making me unstable at +24mph and I was having a hard time pushing to tiltback w/o worry of falling off the front. I found that setting the 'tilt' to a negative few degrees, solved my tilt problem and my stability was back at speed. Arriving home, I inspected the wheel. I noticed it was tilted a few degrees forward, where it should have been showing level. I use a long level across the pedals (per my usual) and recalibrated. I still havent had the nerve to update past fw 2.0. After calibration, I went for a ride in my new shoes, and the wheel was back to allowing me getting to tiltback (30mph) and I was maintaining speeds with no wobble. My tilt setting was back to zero and all was well. I concluded that my wheel got a few degrees out of calibration. I don't know if it was from the many tumbles, or maybe just a drift in software. At any rate, I am now adopting the habit of checking calibration with a level, ANY time I start to notice ride quality suffer. I am NOT complaining, as these things happen and it was a VERY easy remedy. Compared to my beloved mten, the 18L really is high quality. As such, I expect more from the 18L, and it has yet failed to deliver. Now I'm back to the comfort I had, even in the newer shoes. Of course, now my old ones are dry, so its back to those. Having a memory foam insole seems to support my toes and gives me the feeling I have more support to lean. When in doubt, check that tire pressure (mine was a tad low @18psi and that also makes acceleration sluggish) and toss a level down on those pedals!
