Looking for a knobby tire for EX20, stability and puncture resistance is important

The awful factory tire on my EX20 (CST 186 I believe) will soon be done and I am looking for a replacement.  I am mostly interested in stability and good puncture resistance since I often do multi-day trips hundreds of kilometers away from my home and getting a puncture on those trips would really suck .

What tire would you recommend? I need a knobby since I often have to push my wheel up and down stairs and sometimes have to ride muddy, slippery paths. I also prize stability highly, the factory tire with the protruding center row of knobs always seemed nervous and unstable, like it wanted to veer off the path to the left or right and had to be brought back into line with a conscious effort. It is better now that like two thirds of the profile has been worn off in the center and the tire is more or less flat, but I certainly dont want to go through that again with a new tire.

So I have been think ing about a tire that is like 80/80 or maybe even 90 wide and only 80 tall if that fits? Nimbleness and agilty of the tire for carving etc. are of very little importance to me. A source in Europe would be great too. Price doesnt really matter.
