Popular Post mikko
I did a small mod to my Kingsong 16S back in 2021, but did not post about it back then, since I wanted to properly test ride it first. Now this subject came up again by a random chance, and here we are. The problem: 16S pedal hangers tend to start to lean inwards a little bit, and sometimes the wheel would pick up small stones that would land in between the motor hub and the hangers. Now, because of the slight inward tilt, these stones would not always go straight through, but would instead kind of get stuck only to be smashed into pieces by the motor and whatever inertia you have. Usually this a non-event mostly, nothing happens, maybe you hear a funky sound. But sometimes a suitably sized Hard Rock would actually take a bit more power to crack and would lead to a rather scary pedal dip - almost a faceplant. Didn't like that, so, on to the solution and cottage cheese to the rescue. Btw the wheel had 3400km on it when I did this mod, and is now well past 8000km. Never had an NDE after that, so can conclude that it has worked so far. This is what we start with: And here's what we end with: How it works is that when stones get picked up and land on the plastic part, they just keep rolling until they fall off, without getting sucked in between the hanger and the hub. The crack should be wide enough for the plastic not to touch the hub, and to let the smallest rocks go through, but narrow enough that anything that could have any chance of getting stuck, especially with the plastic, would be well supported and would get carried off the side. The plastic is basically PP, 0.4mm thick. It is stashed partially between the hanger's two parts and then locked in place with tape. And when you force the shell on top of that, it should stay well put. With the shell in place, looking inside from underneath, you can see the plastic part there in the center. The gap is narrow. It is very close, but not close enough to touch, as that would make a sound. 2 1
