Was thinking EUCs could ruin my knees. Didn't go out for a while and went without pads to the local store today. Didn't feel any pain. Although, I did notice I didn't feel as confident on the EUC without the pads now. Don't really care at this point. The 16X looks a lot smaller without them btw. Thinking about making my own toe pads without the shin portion. Curious to see if that will hurt my knees or not. Glad to hear you are riding w/o pain. I don't know if i would try toe locks. Im biased and dont use them. I just wonder if having ANY kind of lock to prevent ease of movement, could translate into a twist or pressure on the knees. It sounds like you being able to fluidly monkey about on the wheel, is helping some. You are correct in feeling like you may not be as 'safe' on the wheel w/o pads now. See, the problem lies with the fact that you got used to the leverage and you utilized it to gain control and power over the wheel. Now that you are padless, you MUST relax your style a little, as the same level of powerful wheel control, is not available. Its a catch 22. If you want MAJOR control over the wheel, its gna put a MAJOR toll on your body in one way or another. My advice... Try to take it a little easy for a bit. Maybe try to recall how much fun you had when you thought that 20mph was totally hauling ass! Regroup on what you are demanding of the wheel, as its a direct correlation to what the wheel demands of you. There's no rush here. Take your time, maybe focus on the joy of making the wheel read your mind with easy tasks. The more you ride, the stronger you will get. If you push it too much, you won't be conditioning your body, youll be simply breaking it down. If you aint a kid in your 20's or younger, maybe think hard about what you REALLY can expect of yourself. DOnt give up, but dont ruin yourself by trying too hard. 4
