indetrucks
This was a first for me. After shunting my Airwheel X8 over the weekend, I decided to go on a 3-mile ride for a test run. 10 minutes in to the ride someone from a car yelled at me "are you really that lazy!?"I quickly looked over and noticed it was a younger guy and the car appeared to be filled with his 3 other friends. I imagine having his buddies with him likely gave him the courage to talk $hit. It doesn't bother me as I quickly responded "don't hate."That was my first run in with any sort of negative reaction to my airwheel. Anyone else ever get made fun of while riding your E-UniCycle? RichieV
I've only received positive feedback. Zipping through the crowds I always hear comments like "That is so cool!", or "OMG I want one!". Anybody who has stopped me to strike up a conversation has always expressed how neat they thought it was.I wonder, though; as these things become more ubiquitous and commonplace, how annoying will it be to some people? Perhaps members of this forum who live in areas where EUCs are more common to see can chime in to answer this: what's the general attitude toward EUC riders where you live? Tilmann
Berlin, Germany: after >800km criss-crossing through downtown, no negative reactions without exception. That includes police.Nice dialogue with a group of british chaps. They: "What is it?", me, smiling: "What do you think it is??", they: "Pure madness???" After shunting my Airwheel X8 over the weekend, I decided to go on a 3-mile ride for a test run. 10 minutes in to the ride someone from a car yelled at me "are you really that lazy!?"I haven't had anyone even come near me yet. But the "lazy" comment is what I expected before I even bought an EU because one of the places I plan to ride at (when I get good enough) is a bike trail. I figured I would say "it's just for fun". Much like I bought 4-wheelers so I wouldn't have to run all over the hills and trails. But you could have said "Are you really that lazy!?" since they were in a vehicle too. You both might have been going the same distance.
dpong
I have received no negativity. The worst for me has been a certain subset of individuals that work overtime to not appear impressed.
Stephen Greenslade
I got a 'You lazy b****d!' jibe from a couple of sweaty, generously proportioned guys in a white van stuck in traffic on Euston Rd, but considering the origin, I perceived it as a bit of friendly banter and responded accordingly! RichieV
Just read this negative article. The comments to the article seem to be more in favor of EUCs, though."Reinventing the wheel. I use my X8 at the race track where I race road bikes. The pit is HUGE and sometimes I forget my grid position and have to run to registration in my leathers and boots. The Airwheel makes it SOOOO much easier to travel around the pits and talk to fellow racers. It's also a great conversation starter!
dpong
Actually, I had one other batch of 'negativity', in a way. I ride in 2 different parks, and I think perhaps they are different socio-economic populations. Someone will always ask me: "Do you mind telling me how much you paid for it?" When I have told people how much I paid for the Ninebot One E+ at park 1 the people usually say, that's not bad. In park 2 I have had people look at me like I had 2 heads. I no longer know what to say to that question. I try to tell them they start about $500. That is enough for some. I no longer want to tell them what I paid for my 'Cadillac' model. GCEUK
In the week that I have had my Q3 i've had so many people stop me and ask me about it.I've even helped a few people to have a go on it and everyone so far has been very positive right across the age range. Jdestef
No negativity so far. My only concern is that a lot of dodgy looking blokes shout me down because they're interested and I find myself saying "man I hope this guy doesn't shank me and take my ninebot." Paddylaz
Not negativity....but had my first lesson yesterday and during that 3 hour period (London) I rode both the two-wheeler airwheel and the 9bot e. When I read the airwheel...which is bulky....I got a few bemused looks and a couple of questions here and there but nothing more. And maybe a couple of derisory looks. That changed in the afternoon when I had a go on the Ninebot. I had people gawping, children chasing after me (not that I could stay on for very long) and some American guy shouting "he's on one of those Tron things!!". ? Anyway, my take from this is looks matter to the general attitude. And also, to a layman who doesn't understand how gyros work....if you're seen on just one wheel it looks like witchcraft ? cg
On my second day riding, I got very negative feedback from a cop that stopped me telling me it wasn't legal on public road...I asked him if he was sure, and he asked me if I would like a ticket, I said no, he then went on to lecture me about he had been a traffic-cop for 30 years... and how irritated he was about people riding on their home made electrical devices, motorized skateboards and whatnot... So if I wanted to ride one, I should probably move to a less civilized country... From non-cops, only positive tough,my problem is I live right next to the headquarters for the Danish traffic police

esaj
This is (so far) the only time I've had a negative reaction with the wheel:I'm no longer that worried about police, after having seen them (and they must have seen me) a dozen or so times while riding. They've never bothered to stop me. My latest run-in was last friday night, when I was standing one foot on my turned on Firewheel with all lit up and talking with a friend outside his apartment building. A police car drove right in front of us, and I was pretty sure they were going to say something about my ride, but only asked if we had seen what type of car was blasting away stereos at full volume in front of the house about 20 minutes earlier. We told them that we'd heard it too, but didn't see the car. They then looked at my wheel, smiled, thanked for our assistance and went on their way (and EUCs are still illegal in Finland except indoors and closed to public -areas, this was in a normal street). Jag_Rip
Just this morning a biker started to overtake me and asked, "does this run on electricity"?I replied: "Yeah, no more pedaling ever!"He then pedaled harder and yelled "See I dont even need electricity!"It wasnt exactly negative, but I had to smile nonetheless how he tried to find an advantage of his bike over my EUC. MarkoMarjamaa
I went to Espoo, Laaksolahti sports field that has a 400 meter tartan track and my goal was to test how long the batteries last in optimal conditions. Airwheel claims 20km but that was in 7km/h speed. I don't have patience for 7km/h so I drove 12km/h. It was very boring. I had already done 10 rounds, 4kms, 20 minutes when the field "supervisor" came and told me I cannot drive that thing here. He told me there is a reason bikes are not allowed and that is because it's a running track. There was no one else running the track. Then he said I might harm the tartan. So told him, do you see those tire marks? They are from a bike that drove here _once_ and I've driven the same track now ten times and no marks. Then he said I might get hit by a foot ball. I said I've driven in many cities and a foot ball or a boy chasing a ball are not a problem. Actually I did talk with the boys playing football every time I passed them. Then he said "You are very good at finding excuses but ...". Well maybe because the wasn't good reasons to stop my test..?. But I had to leave because he was the "boss".Then I went to Helsinki, wheeled to city center, had a beer and wheeled back. Living in the edge! Very dangerous! Every 10 minutes they stop and drink 1 beer and then continue with the battle.

Feeling that every move that you do is controlled by every part of you. Besides one beer is normally max for me with wheel.
