Final reminder about Paris 1st Oct / Car Free Day!

So we've got a thread going on about this in the Local meet-up section, but figured it was worth putting a final notification about it here in General Discussion as it's less than a month away now and should be epic.

Paris has one day each year where certain sections of the city are closed off to cars/buses/motorbikes/vans etc etc.

This year it's the WHOLE of the city. So obviously this is going to be a prime euc playground. Well, even more so than usual as Paris is obviously one of the most accepting euc cities.

Anyway if anyone is considering this let us know. Luiz and I are going and according to him and the French euc forum they are also doing a big meet-up. I'll make sure to borrow a friend's go pro or something. Should be great.

FWIW, last year I found the Paris car-free day to be a great disappointment: there were few but enough (and fast going) cars on the roads that I didn't dare using the roads and the sidewalks were full of people enjoying the "car-free" day. All in all it was worse than a regular day in Paris (OK, less cars, but less space to ride too). On the positive side, I assume that when going with the EUC group of 100+ people

the cars won't be any problem.

If only I would know 100% I can come, I'd book a room now. Any recommendations for last-minute hotel rooms?

I'm going to stay in a hostel in Montmartre, I think. It's my favourite part of Paris and I have good memories of it, so will come a day earlier I think and leave a day later.

Hostels in Paris are generally good quality (Hostelworld is a great review site for them) and you can book rooms fairly close to your due date without extra cost.

Yep, I'd also come one day earlier if I come at all, and since the 3rd is holiday here, maybe stay longer. Would not mind to join one of the loooooong tours the French guys do, getting a little out of the city too, instead of just the shorter 20km route planned for the 1st. My 1300Wh (and legs) need a challenge.

Yeah I want to come see everyone for a BIT, but not for the whole thing. Partly because of language barrier but partly because I want to go explore etc. I'd like to test my v5f on some of the steep cobbly hills around Montmartre as well as the obligatory Eiffel Tower/champs de mars flybys.

Ok well keep me updated on your plans, be good to meet you!

@Hansolo Do you know if there's a group ride on this weekend? Preferably one of those loooooooooong 6h+ rides with 80km you make your videos of?;) Ideally, with lots off offroad like that one of your recent videos?:w00t2: Would be a shame to miss it by coming one day too late (for Sunday) if there is something else planned on this weekend.

Loved your thinking meepmeepmayer . :clap3:A longer ride with one of the awesome Paris groups would be great  . I do enjoy their videos a lot ( particulary hansolo's )  . I am afraid my 820 wh bataries wont be enough for a 6 hours ride though . I would have to ride with my msuper v3 and take the acm in a backpack. This may be unconfortable but i reckon is doable  (i have seen videos of someone doing this before) .  The 20 k i have lost recently will be handy  . I gess i will have to lose some more weight though . Still have 80 k  .

Dont worrie about the language barrier Paddilaz . The french people were very friendly and kind to speak in english with me when i was in the meeting and i tried to speak french as much as i could within my extremely limited vocabulary . I really felt very welcome.

Was just thinking, if there's more planned, it's going to be on Saturday most likely. Would hate to miss a longer group ride like in @Hansolo videos if coming one day earlier would solve that!

820Wh is still good for 45 km or so, so with break and fast charger, no problem. I can't ride for 6 hours either, battery does not hold that long (this is 90 km even at slow 15 km/h, above my 1300Wh range which is 75km). 6 hours was just the overall approximate time with breaks etc.

Worst case (nothing planned), we could also just take one of @Hansolo's tours and ask maybe for gpx track or directions, and do it ourselves. Then we can choose the date.

Southeast Germany. So by car, 10h+. To be perfectly honest, still not 100% sure I can come, but a phone call later today and I will know (pretty sure it works out).

For now, I'd be in/near Paris Sunday to Tuesday (coming laaaaate on Saturday and going back on Wednesday), but of course it would be stupid to not come a day earlier if something is (or will be) planned for Saturday and many people leave after Sunday or whatever else!!!

Gotway France will let all participants try the new mten3 and Tesla on this occasion! Also at the dealers on the next day.

I think i can make it work but won't book a ticket until I can be reasonably certain it won't be pissing down on the day. Ill probably get the eurostar out on saturday and return either Sunday night or Monday.

How are you all meeting up? Is there a french web link anyone can give me?
