Tom
I'd recommend something that covers the ankles, I wear hi tops so I've never smashed my ankles on the pedals but all my friends (wearing skating shoes) did this due to lack of ankle protection. MrBump
Canvas boots with thin soles.. Ankle protection for jumping, thin soles for control and feel.
houseofjob
I'm partial to sneakers with good board feel, ala retro skateboarding shoes: Nike SB, Nike Dunks, Jordan 1's, adidas stan smith, adidas campus 80's, adidas superstar.I'd say feet/leg positioning is more important though, regardless of the shoe.I used to place my feet even on the pedals, wedging my inner foot / arch in the crevice of where the pedals join the uni. This caused me to tense up in my inner foot and my arches would hurt on longer runs. Now, I ride placing my feet with the balls more on, heels leaning a bit up and off, and overall feet are away from the crevices / uni. My shins and leg lean more on the uni as a result.
