The Ignorance Faker

So.....over the months/years I've encountered a particular species of person as I either ride or carry/walk my euc. I call these people the 'Ignorance Fakers' and I'm interested in whether anyone else has encountered them?

Basically, they're people who when they see you, they PRETEND to not know what your euc is. I think they do this because they're 'embarassed' at seeming too  enthusiastic. So they pretend they haven't already researched it and are trying to 'play it cool.'

The way I can tell the difference between these people and someone who is genuinely surprised, is that these people are weirdly confident and quick to ask about it, and when you tell them they seem very artificially surprised - and they don't ask any follow-up questions like a normal person would.

It most often happens when they are with a friend(s), and I think they are embarrassed or something about being excited to see one, so they fake ignorance in front of their friend as they enquire about it.

Anyone else encounter this?? I hope I explained the phenomenon correctly!

Did you mean (invariably men) a person who does know what EUC's, who has seen them on say YouTube, but has never seen one in real life?

I have encountered a number of those. No big deal.

Now who you should be very concerned about is the young male with a group of mostly other males who will try to knock you off your unicycle because EUC tipping is a sport. That will happen; I guarantee it.

Sort of, yeah.

They have seen them on youtube, but.......are with friends, or perhaps just shy.

And in a weird sort of way, it's 'easier' for them to pretend they've never seen one than to admit they've already researched them and are excited to finally see one in the wild.

You can tell who they are because when you explain what your euc is, they suddenly seem suspiciously knowledgeable or they appear to 'understand' very very quickly.

This might be a phenomena that only happens in the UK because Brits are notoriously shy and emotionally-retarded.

They sound like women.

I would treat every guy you encounter as a potential customer, client, or as an intro to his younger thinner sister. This is the common courtesy you should extend to all members of civilization.

No, I have not had this experience.  All of the people I have spoken to were genuinely ignorant.  :P

Yeah I'm actually convinced as a brit this is an issue with my nation only.

A lot of culturally inbuilt insecurity here.......

No one where I live has ever seen one that wasn't mine.  So we have an abundance of ignorance.

I've heard North Carolina is beautiful though? Would love to see it someday ?

Someday I'd like to go up to someone riding an EUC and sound like a braggert -- "That doesn't look so hard! - I betcha $XXX I can ride it in three tries!" Then get on it and ride, turn around and come back right away to collect my bet. Unfortunately, I've never come across another rider in person, and won't 'til this Sunday at Arizona's first group ride.

Plus, they will be tipped off by this post. Dang it! :crying:
