dpong
I read in another thread that KingSong will not be providing a USB port for the KS16s. However, when I look at the description on KingSong's site, they include an unusual image, and I can't quite decide what it is. It LOOKS like a USB port (and something else?) with a rubber cover. What the heck is this that I'm seeing in this image? http://www.szkingsong.com/show-28-6.html
houseofjob
Think this is a mistake. Look at the side pad (a little thin for the KS-16B pads) and the break up of the LED light strip (KS-16B is continuous at the top). This pic looks like the KS-14D and it's USB / fuse compartment. Lukasz
Kingsong does not mention USB port any more in the description, however they still keep KS14D picture within KS16S photos - that is obvious error. -Something which is interesting for me - anybody knows if front and back LED lamps in KS14D are more powerful than in KS-16C ? (if yes, they will use those also in KS16S...) -What is the true weight of KS16S? - it will include 1200 W motor so more heavy, however much lighter pedals due to lack of heavy soft rubber inserts. Battery is still 64 pcs of 3500mAh cells - so the weight of battery is almost the same. My unit of KS16C with modified pedals is 16,44 kg - see Current description from their web: (btw nothing about magnetic pedals), 16 inch Electric Unicycle KS-16S 1. Model No. KS-16S(Optional color: Gray/Matt Black) 2. Integrated trolley bar; 3. 840wh top quality battery;1200w high speed motor ; 4. Colorful RGB lights ; 5. Front&rear LED hi-lite illumination ; 6. BT for music ;APP Route Guidance. 7. Magnesium Pedal pillar, more sturdy and durable. 8. Completely new system
Mono
Why are USB ports are getting less common in new models? I sense there must be a reason on the producer side. As a customer I can't really see the downside to having a USB port, even if I'd need to pay ten-or-so bucks for it.

It's before my time, but I think there were complaints within the KingSong community about their implementation of the USB port, in terms of weather-proofing (rain, etc.). So maybe they've decided to skip it. I'm glad Gotway continues to provide the port (with a simple rubber cover).

Yes, as @Marty Backe said, water ingress on early 14c and earlier, as the port was on top ( directly connected to Control board) and apparently the cover was loose fitting and got lost, if I remember correctly. I took a brief look at my CB when I changed my beeper. The contacts in the circuit board appear present, but the USB port is not.

I believe that the USB port on my KS18 is in the back of the wheel, a little ways below the handle on top. I wonder if I should try to find a rubber plug to put over the USB port. Allen That's great that they still provide one. I'm surprised that they didn't provide a cap. Fortunately usb caps are readily available. Then again. California riders don't really need to worry about rain.

All new KS wheels, no matter which wheel size, and so also the new KS16s, have now the newest pedals, with parts of "skate tape" inserts....the old "only rubber" ones are not used anymore! The new type is rubber plus/including "skate tape" and better than the old only rubber ones, which get very slippery when wet. When ever you see photos with the "only rubber" pedals, you can be sure that this are older photos or KS wheels from an older batch....
Lukasz
Please check KS web page - this is the "evidence" backed also by direct comments from the PL reseller who got whole new batch of KS14 and KS16 with new pedals - they are lighter, top is made from plastic and covered with grip, also the angle has been changed to rise the edges higher - to protect pedals from scathing. dpong
Thank-you for your answers @Lukasz and @KingSong69 . I was not aware of this change, and of course was looking at pictures with the older rubber foot stands. I am currently riding Ninebot One E+ and am extremely satisfied with the durability of their foot stands. With approximately 2,300 MILES on my E+, they show no signs of wear. Are you satisfied with the durability and comfort of the new pedal design from KingSong?
dpong
To be clear, I'm not trolling KingSong, but rather researching with an eye towards purchasing one! I like it.

Are you satisfied with the durability and comfort of the new pedal design from KingSong? I am relatively happy owner of the Ninebot E+ with more than 2000km (~1500 miles), and I can say that opinions vary.. this is personal preference but for me the Ninebot pedals are very slippery. Almost the first mod (of several mods/ammendments for E+ to make it "fully operational" ) which I have made was to use skateboard grip on the pedals. If You want to use the wheel in the wet conditions, not even mentioning snow, proper grip is the KEY issue. see post http://forum.electricunicycle.org/topic/4020-how-do-you-get-your-euc-from-place-to-place/?do=findComment&comment=42413 picture below -
dpong
@Lukasz I like your grip-tape modification very much. Nicely done! Like you, I realize the Ninebot handles just doesn't work, so I ignore it completely. Regarding foot stands, however, do you (or anyone) have experiences with the new KingSong foot-stand design?
